Great Places to Camp on the East Coast

I'm looking forward to making a camping trip in May. Does any one have any great locations for air camping/fishing/hiking on the east coast?
Thanks in advance,

Rutland, VT has camping at the end of the runway from late spring through early fall. Call the FBO for information. Also, try this link for the Air Camping Association.

Another airstrip to put on your list is Campbell Field, on the eastern Virginia peninsula. They allow camping anytime and the identifier is 9VG..... it's a real gem, flying the way you remember it. Here's the link...

Great leads guys. Campbell field is in my back yard, I usually do "Soup on Sunday" there and fly around the Chesapeake Bay. TJ, if you get a chance, fly up the barrier islands just east of Campbell field. 40 miles of flying right off the deck. Waves on the right, beach below and on the left. Maybe 5 humans to see on the whole run. The fun ends at Wallops Island where the U.S. Govt launches satilites regulary. That beach is the whole reason I want 29" Airhawks. I just want to land and camp there. NY sounds great!

May not be the greatest airport to camp at, but in a pinch, Kolbelt (N45), NY might be a good runner up. I'm thinking you might be able to pitch a tent by the hangars on the southeast end of the strip.

Plum Island, New Hampshire. It's one of the oldest aerodromes in the country. They let you camp there and have bicycles to use. I've heard that Zinks up in Rumford, Maine has canoes for fishing and you can hike the mountains across the street. Bethel, Maine is located well for hiking and camping. There are all kinds of outfitters there, so you can find everything you need.

There seems to be a lot of Maules in PA. It would be great to find a central location to get together. I am working on a May pancake breakfast at W48. Camping is allowed. We have a sea plane base. The airport has been there since 1938. Its a 2000' runway x 30' and we use the sod West of the runway to save any soft rubber. If anyone is interested I can make it a spring flyin on a Saturday. It would be nice to hook some faces with names. We might be able to get a couple of the Ohio guys involved. It seems you can't nail their feet down. I am open to other locations as well!
Take care,
