Wow, they really got some length to them, and one wasn't enough? Maybe they race.



A few minutes after taking this pic, while almost hovering, I saw 134 mph on the GPS, and 80 on the ASI From a direction that give me a tailwind on my one way strip. 30 minutes later and 1200' higher, I landed my place in zero wind, an odd day.

Crazy winds for sure.....Flying east bound over Long Lake just west of Lake Clark in Alaska. After dropping some floaters off on Mulchatna river, headed back to Anchorage at 2500 feet in calm winds and CAVU. Vertical speed pegged going up and altimeter was winding up fast. About 4000 ft pulled the power back to idle, no affect still going up At 6000 started pulling seat belts tight as I could get. at 8000 put my hands on cabin top trying to buffer the expected bumb at the top. At 10,000 it just stopped with no bumb . No idea where that came from...no big mountains within 75 miles.

I'll bet anyone with good glider experience can provide and explanation. I would love to get some glider time under my belt just for that reason.
