Greg Poe Passes

I am sorry to inform the BCP members that Boise based pilot Greg Poe passed from what appears to be a heart attack yesterday while riding his dirt bike. While Greg may be known to most pilots for his airshow career, BCP'rs probably best know him for his years in Idaho's backcountry as a test pilot for Aviat Aircraft in Afton, Wyoming. Greg flew every Husky and Pitts that came off the line for years as the production test pilot. I believe he was at the Johnson Creek Fly-In this year. He was a great friend, pilot, mentor and human being.

God Bless You Greg, You Will Be Missed!

Sorry to hear that. He flew the Fagen MXS using 100% ethanol.

Re: Greg Poe Passes

I had the pleasure of seeing Greg perform in his MX2 and in the new MXS unlimited on June 4 at Dakota Thunder Airshow at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City.
Greg talks about his flying and his other important work here. http://www.wwaytv3.com/video/2011/04/pi ... r-show-ilm

Thank you Greg, for what you gave back.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Re: Greg Poe Passes

Greg worked very hard at getting an anti drug message out to young people.
He lost his son to drugs a few years back. He had integrity and skills that impressed many
people. I am shocked that his heart stopped. He was quite fit and the airshow routine was grueling physically. I hope he has joined up with his son for a long awaited reunion.
Rest in peace Greg.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: Greg Poe Passes

That's bad news indeed. I never met Greg, but living in Idaho I saw him at every corn dog fair and fly-in in the state. I'm sure it cost him money most of the time. He made me laugh last year at the Idaho Falls Blue Angel show. He was the last to perform before the Angels did their routine and by the time he was taxiing back to his parking spot, they'd already launched Fat Albert. I guess once they start, they shut down all ground movement and they made Greg shut it down on the apron where it was well over 100 degrees. I had my handheld that day sitting in a lawn chair listening in on the supposedly "discrete" channel the performers were using, me and a couple hundred others got to hear Greg describe the "boys in blue" a little differently than the announcer was introducing them. Clear skies and tailwinds, Greg.

Greg Poe Passes

I just saw the release on EAA. Shocked. I met Greg at Mile Hi during the fly in. He had been at sulfur creek with buddies in Scouts and Another Husky. I took this shot of his group at Mile Hi. What a shock and tragedy.

Re: Greg Poe Passes

I was able to get to know Greg a little while working at Western Aircraft in Boise back around 2000. A very sincere man who loved to fly and loved flying in and around Idaho. I hope his foundation continues its work to honor he and his son. It's all blue skies and tailwinds for you now Greg.
