Grimes Fly-In 9/26/09

My buddy Rich and I snuck out last Saturday morning to the Grimes Fly-In before the weather closed in. We were the second ones to arrive and were the token Maule.

Grimes is a field dedicated to old airplanes and is called "The Golden Age of Aviation". This is where they rebuild and fly them.

This Jenny was just completed and flew this past September 9th.

Notice the half-hoops under the ends of the wings to keep them from dragging.

Here is one just back after a bombing run.

Even the ground transportation is old but still runs!

One guy flew in a Fly Baby!

Of course the Idaho Coast Guard was there to keep order!

Here is the Jenny on final on 11 with a 10 mph head wind.

You could probably run and catch it!

We stayed several hours and even met pa150 (Robert) and his grandson Jason who flew in in his nicely repainted 150!

There a few more pictures in my Grimes 2009 album if you are interested.

A few years back I visited my BIL in PA. He lives only a short distance from the Grimes Airport. I got to go and check out there aircraft and old cars. They were working on the Jenny at the time. Neat stuff.

One thing I've noticed about these fly-in TR's is that what the East Coast lacks in mountains, it makes up for in absolutely awesome grass fields.

Rod, that antique Maule M5 in your gallery is rather nice looking.
