Just went into Tangri-la today. I've known about this for a few years, but first time I have been in. Strip is 2700' and probably as nice as any. Real cool spot. Lots of parking. You can camp, for a modest fee, or get a room that has been dynamited out of the rock and finished up very nicely, for a pretty reasonable donation. We spent a couples hours there and it is amazing what they have done.

I will post some pics

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

The builder of all that lives in Vegas, I spoke to him a couple years ago.

He usually had a wagon parked on the runway to waive off uninvited guests.

Sounds like maybe things have changed

It is a amazing place

Did you also go to mineral since you were so close?

The runway was clear of obstacles, but I have been warned to watch for them. And it was smooth like a clay tennis court. He cautioned that if it has rained, it takes about 6 hrs. to drain or it will be muddy. G

That is a very cool looking spot. Thanks for posting the pictures! Do you have to call ahead to land? If so, do you have a number for them?

Glad to see you are still breaking the surly bonds of earth and still have a 180 to do it in! If your gang of 3 gets down this way, stop by. Now 4 180s at our field.

Regards, Larry

Hi Larry

Good to hear from you. We have been doing a lot of good flying this fall and sofar this winter.

No need to call ahead. No Phones. Smoke signals are the only choice.
No food either. Bring what you want, and what you need to prepare it, or fly out to somewhere else to eat. Gateway and Bullfrog aren't too far away. Gateway is my local favorite.

Actually, I was going to give you and Dave a call. We are planning on going to Sandia East for their cookout 1st Sat. in Feb.

Take care Gary

Gary, I wish i could have made it!! it looked like a bunch of fun esp. landing in the snow and doing the spot landing "contest" at Navajo Lake.

I am planning to fly with you to the Sandia East cook out. Hopefully Akroguy and Skywagon88h will be able to join us and get some of that huge group of 180 pilots on there field to fly too. well, that is of course, if 10 guys all in 180's don't mind a stinking M-pilot to tag along

Sounds like a plan! Larry...when is this? Man, that's a skinny runway they have. Rwy 9/27 is 4830' x 30'. I almost knocked my wingtip lights off the RV8 when they had snow piled up along the sides a few years back. The wagon should clear nicely. Xwinds can be wicked up there though.

Peter, we'll let you stop in. Just park in the back. In the shadow of our bloated egos.

Akroguy, I think Shortfielder was say the 1st sat. in Feb. which is Feb. 2.
I think it would be great to fly down there with as many airplanes as possible. Maybe you and Skywagon88h could summons the gaggel of bloated (i mean your bushwheels) 180 pilots at the field for a cookout run.

If any other New Mexico pilots or interested parties would like to join us please post your interest.

Maybe we could hit some strips on the way :D Peter
