Hangar Eviction?

Anyone ever been evicted from a tee hangar because they didn't buy enough gas from the hangar owner/FBO? If all units are rented and the next guy in line is a plane owner promising to work on commercial and instrument ratings, the FBO sees the same rent and probably more gas sales.

Re: Hangar Eviction?

Is it month to month rent. If so, you can move out anytime you want and he can kick you out anytime he wants. Bummer though.

My employees are clasified at will. They can quit anytime and I can fire anytime. No explanation required.

Re: Hangar Eviction?

I think what Tim says is correct. Without a 12 month lease it's 30 days notice & your out. Totally legal, albeit a shitty way to do business. A bird in the hand...

I'd raise a stink & make sure other owners there know they could be next,

Blessed are the curious, for they shall have great adventures!

Re: Hangar Eviction?

Was there a rental agreement? If so, what does the wording say? Anything about the fuel? What if your plane is down a long time for repairs, etc?

Re: Hangar Eviction?

I feel you pain! I just got booted out of my hangar, albeit for different reasons. I was in the community hangar at Monterey Bay Aviation when they went TU a couple of weeks ago. How did I find out? When I tried to get my plane out to go fly and the place was locked up tight! Apparently they had closed their doors two days earlier and the owner "was on his way in to get my plane out..." yeah, right...thanks for not giving me ANY notice! [-X  Fortunately, he did show that morning, pulled my plane out for me and I grabbed the rest of my stuff I had stored in a closet...

Re: Hangar Eviction?

That sucks. With hangar space at a premium, owners can get away with this sort of garbage. Of course, being an FBO, they often depend on the business of local pilots who aren't going to look favorably on those kind of practices.

Hope you find a better place soon.
