Happy to have found you!

I could not believe my eyes when I found this site. To find so much good information and resources all in one place and the fact that we all share the same love of flying, it,sa great! I fly a Cessna 175/180 out of Sandy Or. but I will be getting back to my old taildragging ways soon. I have owned 3 Cessna 170s over the last 30 years, as well as a taylorcraft and Citabria. In fact my last 170 is for sale now and is shown on Aircraft Shopper Online. I bought it back in Kentucky in 1990 and flew it home to Oregon. What a splendid trip that was! It has a 165 Franklin conversion in it and was a nice flying bird. Well enough of my rambling, Have to save some for later, Iam just happy to be aboard.

If it has wheels, propellers or breasts, sooner or later it will break your heart.

Welcome to the site, Linehand. I have been to Sandy River Airport, and love that place. You're a lucky guy to operate out of there.

Photos

Hey Lineman R, this is the keenest flying computer place I have ever found. Look at Zanes 2005 Burning Man photos... picture of me and Zane in front of my plane... I am not sure you have seen it since I repainted it.

Zona-

While Q has the scenic photo category locked down, you may be the creative/cool photo category winner.

Welcome on board guys.

What makes this site so great is the contrast of various aircraft as well as ideas, not to mention the uncensored aspect.

Pretty mellow group here, with pilots of all experience levels.

Have fun

Hmm, I wonder if I am the new owner of your old 170.

Been lurking here for a little while, have been enjoying both the forum and the website as a whole.

How many 170s in Oregon have a 165 HP Franklin? Pretty rare I'd say! ;)

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Well, if he was saying what I think he was saying - that his "last 170" that he had in Oregon in the early nineties was for sale by a subsequent owner, then I'm pretty sure I have it.

Especially since the only 170 I saw for sale in ASO recently was the one I bought! Pretty neat. 8)

The only other 170 I've found still flying with the 165 Franklin is in Canada somewhere. The FAA database isn't searchable by engine model unfortunately.

If you bought the 170 from Jim, Up in Bellingham Wa. You have the right one. I loved that plane. If I did not need the money to finish my house at the time, I would still have her. I hope that you enjoy her half as much as I did. Roy

It killed Jim to sell her, let me tell you. You no doubt saw the pictures in the ASO ad, but if not check out my website on my profile.

It's currently at a mechanic outside Seattle getting an annual and a little sprucing up. Ha ha, "sprucing" up...get it? I look forward to my marriage with the Franklin engine...up times, down times, lots of patience - but I sure appreciate the 165 horses. When I can no longer stand to support it I think I'll go the o-360 route.

I plan on getting down next weekend to get the insurance check out and then a flight home through Montana/Calgary/Ft. Nelson/Northway/Fairbanks/home.

Wow! Thanks for the pictures. That was a lot like going back home for my 20th HS reunion and seeing that girl friend that I never quite got out of my mind. Have a great trip up North,Wish I was going with you. Roy
