Re: Hartzell Propeller is a BCP sponsor

This is kind of a soft "data point," but I just got an 82" Voyager put on the U206 (NA IO520F, Horton kit, gap seals, stock oversize lg, no pants, leading edge exhaust and GAMIs). I've got about 15 hours with it now, most of it around 10k, but also some cross countries at 5-6k. I'm seeing true airspeeds of 145-148 knots. That's a good 10 knots faster than I had with the old C90. It pulls noticeably harder on takeoff, and I'm seeing around 200 fpm more in climb. With the C90, climb above 10k was really anemic. It's quite a bit better now. It's also silky smooth.

This isn't scientific apples-to-apples, corrected for temperature etc., but the differences between before and after are undeniably and surprisingly (to me) large, considering how difficult it is to add speed to the top end. The engine isn't making more power, but the prop is significantly more efficient. The airframe surface is pretty rough, too. I'm taking it to the paint shop today. I thought that the noise would be reduced compared to the old pencil tip C90, but it seems to be the opposite. My wife said she heard me take off from home 5 miles away the other morning.

I’ve had my Voyager for several years now, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I don’t have any quantitative data to back it up, but the climb rate change was significant enough that my usual cadence of leaning during the climb was suddenly insufficient. It was really noticeable. Additionally, I can climb at much higher speeds with far less rate penalty than I had with my old Hartzell Top Prop.
