It's not just the mess. Blood is incredibly corrosive. If you allow any blood to get into the belly of the airplane, you really need to try to get it cleaned out, cause it will not only smell, but corrode your ride.

No--ON a road. Preferably with a forklift nearby....

MTV, isn't that illegal in most states, including Alaska? I can't believe you of all people would suggest something not legal!

Low&Slow wrote:Whee - you said you could take 350lbs of meat out. Is it flying the plane? As a former (sadly) owner of a Luscombe, that's a pretty good load - I always figured about 450 for total payload with fuel. The best way to fly game out is to hire some sucker like me with a 206 or Islander to come and get it; then I have to hump it to the plane, load it, and worry about clearing the trees at the end of the strip....

It is a full load but I won't be full on fuel and I will only have one seat in...I have the Jack Norris seats that I seldom use but they do come in handy when I only want one seat in the plane.

I thought about hiring a plane but I figured it like this. If I get 600 lbs of meat to take out that will be 2 trips...100 miles round trip...so approx 1 hour each trip...I burn 4 gph when running hard so that will be 8 gal total. 8x4.50= $36 for fuel to haul the meat and I get to log the time :D

Anti,

Hey, find a road that's not a "public thoroughfare", wait till the big bugger strolls across it, then blast em.

Yes, shooting "From, on or across a public thoroughfare (or in some states right of way) is illegal, immoral, and very efficient, from the standpoint of carrying the thing out.

Moose are heavy, in my experience.

Whee, shoot the smallest one that's legal. Calves are tasty, and much lighter, assuming they're legal.

Veal.....

I don't know what sort of strip you're flying out of, but the Luscombe must carry a load a hell of a lot better than a cessna 140. Either that or you're comfortable with a minimum safety buffer...

Calculating the expense is an instant way to quit hunting altogether. I can buy the best cut of meat from the finest butcher in any city on earth for less than what most people end up paying for tough old venison, but that's not really the point.

As long as you're logging hours, why not make it three trips at something slightly less than gross weight?
