Hawaii

Going to Kauai next month for the first time in Hawaii. Anyone know of a rental place or at least someone there that will let me log an hour or two in their plane? I am totally willing to pay up, but this may be a one time opportunity for me to log time while there.

If not, that's cool, I'll prolly make a trip to one of other islands to do it later, but I have my (student pilot) wife with me and it would be cool to show her the difference between flying here and there.

thanks in advance!

Re: Hawaii

There's a 172 for rent from the Guy that does the bi-wing tours. You can't miss it, it's right off the only highway. Familiarize yourself with their cruising altitudes, I think its 1,2,and 3000 westbound and 500, 1500,2500 east. Lots of traffic around certain areas, mostly copters.

Re: Hawaii

I rented a 172 there once. What I remember is, DO NOT announce at one of the reporting points that you are 50 feet!

Re: Hawaii

I'll be there next month also. Kauai is a great island but I have not rented a plane there yet. I did rent at Honolulu once and did the inter-island checkout which involved flying to Lanai, Molokai, and Maui and doing 3 landings on each. Last time I was in Kauai the ultralites looked pretty cool but I was to busy 4 wheeling the mud in our rental jeep to pursue it.

Re: Hawaii

I use to go there for Christmas. I couldn't find anyone that rented planes there. I was told about the "Power Line Trail" from some locals. I couldn't get my wife and daughter to go but is supposed to go all the way over the island. They claim it is a pretty rough road but I never got a chance to find out.

That bottom pic was us. :D

I may look for a rental plane this time, I'll be there March 8-15 if your trip overlaps let me know we should get together for some plane talk and an adult beverage or 2.
