Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone on here is using iMovie for video editing or any other app. If so, are you using it on your Mac or iPad? I'd like to start using it on my iPad to edit videos while on the road. The big hurdle seems to be getting the video onto the iPad. So, if anyone has any experience with this, let me know how you do it. I've read about some using handbrake to covert the file to mp4 or using Dropbox. I've tried Dropbox with .mov files and can't get it to open on the camera roll.

It's easy to import videos straight from your camera onto your iPad using the Apple SD card reader or USB adapter. You just plug your media/device in and it launches the importer automatically, placing them in the Camera Roll I believe.

However, importing media from other sources (network) might be tricky. I'd say the most reliable way would be to put them on SD card. I know it's hacky, it stinks of using floppies.

As for the media format, that depends on your camera. I assume GoPro or Drift? iMovie for the iPad is designed to handle their specific video format. Your Drift footage may or may not work, even after transcoding it.

Thanks Zane. I saw this app and wondered about it. Have you used it or know of anyone that has? I don't care what app I use. I just want to be able to do something like put my vids in Dropbox, launch the app and grab them from Dropbox, make my video, and post on line. Since I don't get much time to do my videos at home, I want to get to where I can do them on the road on my iPad.

I use iMovie on my MacBook. Love them both, but I have zero experience with anything else. I would think that it would be more hassle than it's worth to do it all on an iPad. For me, there is a lot of drag and drop and scrolling trough menus that seem like it would be cumbersome on an iPad.

Our iPad never leaves the house, but I always travel with my MacBook. I'm not a computer guy so I'm probably doing it wrong.

And I'm about the opposite. I just got an iPad for Christmas and find that I hardly use my work issued laptop at all anymore. And shortly, our laptop is going away to be replaced with an iPad. So soon, it will be all that I have while on the road!

Editing videos is not what the iPad is for. I don't even think there is a reasonable app to do it. You need a pc for that so buy a Mac.

But then I'm lugging a laptop around the country. If it isn't feasible, I'll just keep using Magix on the home computer. It works well and I like it. Just finding the time to do it is the issue!

You seem to have settled on Magix, but I'll throw my hat in the ring for Final Cut Pro if you get serious about things. Great application.

I have the iPad 2 with 64G.

Magix was a Christmas present over a year ago, so I already own it. Great program that I really like. My biggest problem is being home to use it. Or I should say, finding time to be able to use it. Meanwhile, I've got hours and hours at cruise and in the hotel to tinker with it.

I use iMovie and have same iPad. The vids from my Contour cam load right in using the MicroSD card adapter, haven't tried the mini USB cable yet but that might work too.

I haven't used any other laptop or PC movie programs yet as I am pretty new to this so using iMovie is all I know for now. Pretty cumbersome to use, really, but it gets the job done in a pinch, just takes time which you apparently will have. One thing I don't like is that access the movies that are stored in the iPad seem to jumble together in the iMovie folder without any real order, and once you get a bunch of them in there, it gets hard to find the ones you want. Also when adding music, you have to individually set the movie clip noise level in order to get a consistent background "ambient sound"...again, its pretty easy, just cumbersome and time consuming.

Thanks Bart. That was very useful info. Based on that, I may look more into pinnacle and see what the capabilities are there. While I have the time, it will drive me nuts if it is tedious.

what storage ipad do you use?
I have just 16G and it is full with apps/foreflight and just a tiny bit of music.
Would 64G even be enough to handle movies?

I have the 64G. Would think it should be able to handle short to medium length video.

I'll look again, but I don't think so...which blows. I guess it is only $12, but it would be nice to play with it first and see if it works. Maybe I'll email them with some questions.
