Re: Headed north from Chino CA.

Inyokern? Lone Pine is just a few miles up the road - real nice town with a courtesy car at the airport and lots of hotels and nightlife. But I guess I wouldn't fly that route VFR in the dark either.

How far north are you going? At this time of year I'd suggest a 180 degree turn and a thousand miles or so of cross-country until the OAT reaches maybe 30 degrees celcius, then land and stay there until April.. :-)

Good luck!

Yup, I'm at Minden . . . nice place to stop with the Taildragger restaurant on the field. PM me if you are stopping by.

Cheapest 100LL in the area is Yerrington (O43) at $4.00 or Silver Springs (KSPZ) at $4.04.

George, when you were in Bishop, did you do the work or did someone else?? Maybe Hangar One, Rod Philbrick or the mechanic working for Sierra Life Flight?? The Thai food at the terminal restaurant is pretty good, too. Later, FF

Re: Headed north from Chino CA.

George,

Are you on your way back to Colville?

If so, the weather isn't cooperating is it?

I lost a close friend a few years back that bought an aircraft in Salt Lake, and crashed in Ladd Canyon in the Le Grande area trying to make it home to Spokane. He knew he wouldn't make Spokane, but had a car available in Le Grande to drive home and crashed about 15 miles short of Le Grande. It was a quad city challenger, and the morning of the accident I tried to talk him into loading it into a uhaul, but he said "we'll be alright getting to Le Grande". IMO, he was a good safe pilot, which made it hard to come to terms with. Any ways this brought back those memories.

If you want to take Horizon from Walla Walla, tri cities or some thing, I'll pick you up in Spokane and give you a ride North, just be careful out there.

We are taking our time, 2. Of us and 2 big dogs, stopped at Austin then Battle Mountain and we are overnight in Elko. Sorry to hear of your friend.
We have been biding our time and watching the weather, tomorrow looks promising.
Have been meeting some fine folks along the way, have missed a couple due to daylight, and delays.
Had dinner with my little neibor girl from about 20 years ago, Nice to see them again.
Birds in a Hangar and we are set for the night, Crew car from the airport.
Going to go window shopping!!

Sounds like a great trip George. The best are when you don't have to be some place, at a certain time. Freedom is so sweet. That's my bucket list, to be free to do as I wish.

I was surprised to walk outside tonight and see CAVU conditions, enjoy your trip home!

Re: Headed north from Chino CA.

George,

The weather has been crap here for weeks it seems.

I awoke this morning to my wife saying "you should go flying today" gotta love her!

I looked outside and its severe CAVU.

Thinking I might head up to Colville and check out your new bird. Whats your ETA?

Have a good flight,

Paul
