Headsets Inc ANR kit

Has anyone used the Headsets Inc ANR kits recently?

Both of my Lightspeeds are seeing their better days. The control module on both sets is a disgusting sticky mess, which after following LS recommended 'heavy scrubbing' with alcohol, I have gotten them back to much better usability. The falling apart cushions are another matter. I was able to have the wife stitch them up to be usable until I can get replacements sent to me.

Lightspeed responded that it would be $400/each to have them upgraded or $200/ea. for refurbishment. Since I have 2 sets of NIB David Clark headsets, I was considering putting in the ANR kits.

Has anyone used this kit? How does it compare to the LS ZULU?

Thank you!

Re: Headsets Inc ANR kit

My go-to headset is an original Lightspeed Zulu.

When I went down the road of building a Team Wendy/Sky Cowboy supply helmet I was working on a very tight budget so I used an existing DC headset and Headsets Inc ANR kit.

It works, but the DC headset ear cups have never been as comfortable to me as the Lightspeed, and the Lightspeed noise canceling/clarity is more modern/better, plus the Bluetooth feature made me eventually upgrade to a Zulu2 in the helmet.

It was kind of a fun project to disassemble and install the ANR kit in the headset. If you've never used a Lightspeed (or Bose) noise canceling headset you would probably really like the Headsets Inc ANR kit. If you have, going back to the DC Headset is probably going to be disappointing.

We also have a David Clark OneX, that is a much nicer headset than the regular David Clarks and worth looking at particularly for those with smaller heads.

Headsets Inc, Easy to install, however I’ve had bad luck with their new modules. The really old ones lasted longer.

My issue was sweat, if you wear them for cropdusting they start squealing and eventually fail. They have the quick connect now which makes replacement easy. However my Bose and Lightspeed have had ZERO issues and knock on wood, havnt had issues yet in 5 years.

Ohh last note, spent a ton of money with HI, had them install their system in my helmet , and they warrantied once and I still had issues with their new style modules and then dropped me. Never going back. Nothing like talking to approach then they fail right when contacting a busy tower! Never again.

Re: Headsets Inc ANR kit

I put those kits in 3 of my DC headsets. They do make the DC headsets a lot quieter but they are not even close to my Lightspeed Zulu headset for comfort and noise canceling. I have had one or two of my modified DC headsets stop working now, but I probably got close to 10 years of use out of them with the anr kit.

Re: Headsets Inc ANR kit

I had Headsets Inc do an ANR conversion on a DC 10-20 back in 2016-- $256 including return shipping.
I don't have any experience with Lightspeed or any other ANR headsets, but I like mine and have been using them ever since.
I finally got around to having them upgrade my original DC 10-13.4 (purchased in 1998) last May-- $316 including return shipping.
Not much of an increase for eight years, esp compared to other stuff (like gas & airplanes).
I demoted the 10-20's to right-seater use and have been using the 13.4's myself. They work great.
I don't really notice any difference in the modules other than they changed the headset cord connector to a bulkier, clumsier style.
All in all, I think that HI's ANR conversions are a really good value, esp if you are old school and like DC headsets like I do.

I’ve done 2 DC13.4 conversions, they’ve been working well the past 10 years. Gel ear seals are a plus. No experience with the Zulus but they aren’t far behind my new DC one-x. Mostly weight.
