Heard on the Driggs AWOS

"No aircraft are allowed on either the alternate grass landing area or runway 3 and 21 if other landing surface is in use. Only taildraggers with a wingspan less than 49' may use the alternate grass area."

Never heard that before.

I mused about that too, surely they must land that thing in the grass just for fun. I guess with a float kit on the horizon, they can call it a taildragger too. I wonder what triggered the announcement, A 185 clubber calling 21 right while Huntsmans were on final?

Re: Heard on the Driggs AWOS

Last winter I landed in the area in question, it was 4' deep snow and I was on the wheel skis. After skiing over to the asphalt, I realized the berm was too abrupt to transition to the wheels. Eventually I realized the solution was to take off, lower the wheels and land on the asphalt. Never asked anybody, just did it. This must be a new deal, I'll stay away probably.
