Heated Seats

As I mentioned in the other seat thread, I am wanting to put heat in my tush!! I am researching various upholsters and OA replied that they would install heating pads, but does not sell them. They must be customer supplied.

I looked on flyboy asseccories and they have units for single seats. In searching the internet, I found a company called 'Watercarbon' that appears to be selling the same exact units. Prices aren't bad either, $50-100 range. On amazon they sell 4-pads (for 2 seats) for less than flyboy does for one seat. There are various different styles of switches. I prefer the multi range over the hi/lo type. My vehicles have heated seats and I wish they had a lower setting. They are HOT and HOTTER!! I also think these might help soften the seat a bit in the winter. As many of you know, the memory foam can be hard as a board in the winter, at least until it gets warmed up by one's butt.

Any experience or reccomendations on these/ Thanks!!!

Re: Heated Seats

This company makes really high quality seat covers with the option of heaters:

Not sure if they'd customize for you or not, but they're a great product. Might be worth a call.

Re: Heated Seats

Hammer, I have something similar to those. Only thing I don't like is that they seem to 'bunch up' or get out of place. Full disclosure, I have a hard time sitting stil and am always searching for that perfect sitting position. I know this is the cause.

Whee, Thanks! I remember that thread and had read it. I was searching for other options. Maybe just order the one's that flyboy/JEG's/etc. sell since they have been used by pilots and I haven't read of anyone's burning up!! Yes, someone messaged me about one starting on fire in their vehicle!!! It was a factory vehicle seat so no idea what brand it was. Fire aboard a plane...That scares the crap out of me!!

Re: Heated Seats

I have heated seats on my e-ab pa-12. Sure is nice to have, especially since I get very little cabin heat from the engine.

Re: Heated Seats

Just about any outfit that sells and installs car accessories will have heated seat panels. Use whatever adhesive they recommend to attach the stuff to your cushions. Really pretty simple.

10-4 wwhunter.

When I started my thread a received a few pms from guys that didn’t want to post in public. They sourced their heaters from various sources including Amazon and heatyourseat.com. I think any quality seat heater kit will work you just have to find one that you like the specs on.

Re: Heated Seats

Used these in a Cub for a couple of years and very satisfied. Plenty of heat to butt and back with low and high settings. Lightweight, removable, $20.

I have 4 of those type. They work great. The problem I have with them is they don't want to stay in place. Climbing in and out, along with my constant fidgety attempt at getting comfortable, cause them to bunch up or move out of place. I have thought of cutting out the elements and attaching them on the inside of the new upholstery. They do heat very well, almost too well!

Re: Heated Seats

I like the idea!
Sorry for thread hijack: Am wondering, though - when you fly in the winter, do you dress as if you were going to spend the day (or night?) outside? Flying in n. Maine and Canada in winter, we wear our outdoor gear while en route. I rarely need max cabin heat, even in below zero temps. Of course, type of plane makes a difference...

I dress warm, but not overly bulky. I'm not a big guy, but there is limited room in most side by side airplanes to allow someone to put on a snowsuit and pack boots. If the wife is riding with, I'm lucky if I can get by with more than a T-shirt on!!! She dresses with unteen layers and ends up like the Michilen man! LOL, OMG, I'm going to be dead now!

Ian a tandem plane there is a little bit less issue with having more layers on. The RANS is actually quite roomy inside and allows for better dressing for winter flying.
