Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Re: Hell Of A Backcountry Hauler

Nice slow landing. Looks like a little Russian patent infringement on their Baby Bush tail wheel.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

Re: Hell Of A Backcountry Hauler

I thought the pilot looked pretty uncomfortable.
Not impressed. :)

Squeaky brakes. I wonder what the fuel burn is on that..........

Re: Hell Of A Backcountry Hauler

With that paint scheme and esp that long nose, that airplane really looks sleak-- way less clunky looking than a stock radial-powered AN-2.
What size turbine is that? It seemed to perform pretty well. The stock radial is a 1,000 hp Russian knock-off of a Wright 1820, so it probably wouldn't work very well to just hang a Pratt PT6 on there like with the Otter etc.

That's not squeaking...those are air brakes. AN-2 was the first airplane I was ever in that had air brakes! The qr valves are down by the floor...it's a hoot!
That's a Garrett TPE-331-12... I'm a tried and true, died in the wool round engine fan.....but that's a really nice looking install and a damned sight better than that Pezetel that was on there before! I got in on overhauling one of the PZL's...was expecting something as well made as a Wright....NOPE.
I like it!!

We flew the Garrett TPE331-10R-511C's or −512C's in our Casa-212's. 900 SHP using the Hartzell four blades, if I remember right. A bit noisy, but would be a sweet combo on that AN. Fuel burn will be about 70-75 GPH.

Patent infringement is normal there!, that's nothing compared to DC-3's, B-29's, IHC trucks, etc.

Cool, but I guess I've been hanging around here too long. Just doesn't look right with those little tires on the mains....

Best,
