Helmet dimple tape

I'm modifying my wings now to get a few more knots and bring home the gold! (Grooves in red part of helmet) http://www.ctvolympics.ca/skeleton/news ... 47360.html

Re: Helmet dimple tape

I don't use a helmet but I got 20 feet of it left to put on my struts and elevators. At 4.95 a foot it must be worth its weight in gold.

Re: Helmet dimple tape

You got to be kidding. We protested an airodynamic helmet. I suppose we protested spandex when we were still wearing wool pants.

Re: Helmet dimple tape

Please post your results. The Mythbuster guys did a car in dimples (not tape, though) and got a 10% improvement. I've seen several posts in a google search of folks who tried it and found it worked worse on a prop and others who said it helped the slow speed flight when applied to the wings, but not top speed. Others rave, so it should be an interesting experiment.

The wife has put a few dimples in my head over the years and I wouldn't say it made me any faster. #-o

Re: Helmet dimple tape

Savannah Tom,
I do plan to post the results of the dimple tape on the struts and elevators but for now you can read the effects of it on the wings in my earlier posts. Type in dimple tape in the search box in the upper right screen. It is nearly invisible on the wing unless you are on a ladder fueling or know what you are looking for.
Lizard, could you post pictures also, and instead of effects of dimpling, what was the cause. It might even be more interesting.

Re: Helmet dimple tape

Stands to reason that it would work. It has been said for years that hail damaged wings fly faster.

Dale,

Guessing her intent was to try and make you a bit wiser . . . not faster! Though I bet it made you a better ducker.
