Three weeks and counting :( so I emailed customer service... I have an order confimation that says they will charge my card when it ships

Re: Helmets?

Hey, I finally got mine. Stop ordering them. The company sucks. I have called every day for 7 days, and only get a message that says something like, "your message is important and we will call as soon as we can!" I am calling the BBB.

It DOES NOT work with Zulus. Not even close. It works somewhat with the blue plastic old style LS.

Re: Helmets?

There is a lot of discusion on here about the cheepest helmet I was just wondering about the other end of the spectrum, what is the absolute best aviation helmet available?
Im just thinking If Ive got thirty five hundred dollar bushwheels to protect my seventy thousand dollar airplane why would I buy a fifty dollar helmet to protect my priceless cranium?

I like it! =D> It would come in handy for sweeping out the tent after a weekend of camping, too.

MSA Gallet, period. Nicely equipped with dual visors, Oregon Aero seals, CEP's and fit kit will push about $1600. But you will never trade it for anything else. If you really want to go crazy buy NVG's to go with them! :D

I would strongly recommend buying it from Tiger Performance in NY. If you want some custom color it may take a bit to ship from Europe, but Sonny Hawkins, the CEO, is a great guy. Their customer service is great, and they have ALOT of experience with the helmets and communications. Even wireless if you want.

Re: Helmets?

I'll second those skateboarder looking helmets. We were issued them when I switched to the MC-12(king air modified for recon work) to mount NVGs and stuff on. IMO, the best thing about them is you can wear your headset under the helmet(if you take the toip pad out) or over the top of it if you so desire. The are a lot lighter than the Gentex aviator helmet, and dont crack if you drop them, as has happended with my Gentex before. And, for the price, you really can't beat them. They do look a tad on the gooberish side, but they will protect the old nugget pretty well.
On a side note, and you military guys might agree, I do find it amusing that they make is fly in body armor when we fly, but the most important part of our body is protected by something Tony Hawk would wear to work...

Re: Helmets?

Flipped my S7 Sunday. Had inertia belts but not sure the shoulder harness was adjusted properly. Hit my head on the xbar. Lots of blood but no stitches needed. Aside from the head and some sore ribs the biggest damage was to my pride. A helmet certainly would have been a help. Do they make helmets that protect your pride?

Re: Helmets?

Sorry to hear about the flip! I've been flying with a DC-K helmet with LightSpeed Z's installed for several months and it is pretty darn nice, not perfect but definitely better than a ball cap. Can't say I would/could wear it for a long X-country (Oregon Aero tells me than can make it better, likely going to send it next week) but I kept it on 100% in Montana, and Idaho, and wished I had kept on for a few more hundred miles as Utah (damn bumps) and SW Colorado we're painful. In a flip the DC would save you a bunch of band-aids

Re: Helmets?

I've been flying ultralights, sailplanes and now light sports for years now. I always wear a helmet. An off-field landing always has the potential for incident. Even a slight contact with a runway light or a stray animal in low light conditions can ruin your day. A helmet might just be the difference between a bad day and your last day. Mostly I just fly with a surplus Navy flight-deck helmet with my headset in place of the earproctectors. Inexpensive and quite comfortable. Not on par with the big dollar gentrex stuff but still decent protection for most impacts.

Re: Helmets?

Flight:
After wearing helmets for over 35 years as a crop duster and Helicopter Pilot I finally went to a straight headset last 15 years.David Clark works good but I really need ANL. After looking at my motorcycle helmet (looks close to the skateboard helmet )now I'm trying to fitting headset to it . Old Military Helmets were hot and head clamps --uncomfortable but necessary .

Re: Helmets?

Anyone found a good helmet with ANR?

I used to use an AF helmet (ahem...procured...), but was just not effective in keeping the noise down. Finally went with Lightspeed Zulus, which are the best headset I've ever had. But, no cranium protection.

Re: Helmets?

The MSA Gallet helmets can be ordered with ANR. Not cheap, but what is your head worth? Ever meet someone who's had traumatic brain damage?

The Gallet helmets do cost a bit, but if you're going to wear a helmet, why not make it one of the best? And, I agree that ANR is important. The Gallet ANR is some of the best as well.

Re: Helmets?

I used to wear a helmet while flying jumpers out of the 207,mostly for the noise. Also on really long days it was way more comfy than the sunglasses and headset. Also with the visor down nobody could tell if you were sleeping or not :D Alot of times some of the jumpers would try and make fun of you for wearing it.Skydivers are a strange breed ,when you make fun of the pilot you dont get full altitude.

Re: Helmets?

Does anyone know if Oshkosh would be a good place to shop the different Helmets? Could a guy place an order and get measured the proper way? I am seriously considering a Helmet for this winter.

Re: Helmets?

MTV, I agree. Seen quite a few TBIs in my life, unfortunately. Most all of them from motorcycles...

Sadly, the mustang is one of those planes that is loud enough to sterilize mice. If I can't hear, it's not safe to fly..so I've given up head protection to have the ability to hear.

Any info on which of the sound reduction systems with the Gallet is best? I looked at their website, and they list two different types...
