Help from our Australian friends...

Looks like I'm going to be in Sydney for 10 to 15 days Starting around the 18th. Would love to rent a plane and fly a good portion of that. The CASA conversion looks pretty straight forward.

Out of Sydney, where are some fun places to fly?

Thanks guys - Would love to catch up with any of you that are in the area!

Hi Jim

I’m about 2 hrs drive North of Sydney in Newcastle. Also have a US PPL not sure if the CASA conversion is worth the effort for a short stay and the medical is a real PITA in you have any, even minor issue. My US class 3 was nothing, no reports required but my CASA class 2 (equivalent to your 3) has me with 3 specialists reports each YEAR and renew only by CA$A!

I don’t currently own an aircraft (finalising divorce settlement - ouch). Still have a hangar at YMND and there are a good bunch on folk on the field, including an expat Yank CFI, we have managed to convert to a card carrying Aussie (he even drinks Tooheys Old now!) but he still talks like you guys do

http://www.rnac.com.au own and operate YMND, we have a CASA delegate testing officer (~DPE) on staff and it’s pretty nice place to fly around. Beach, lake and valley.

Email or PM me with your number and a good time to call and we can have a chat if you like and can very likely sort something out.

Thank you Peter! PM Sent! I don't have any medical issues and I'll get a current class 3 before I come down. Should be a hoot and I'm not gonna be a quitter when it comes to Tooheys!
