Help mounting ABW's on Cleveland Wheels
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
I have a new set of 31" x 13" x 6" ABW's and can't get the wheel halves to set on the tire enough to tighten the bolts. Talc powder helped but........suggestions? Rubber mallet?

tricycles are for little girls
I kinda had that problem too. Using dish soap in water to wet the tire/wheel, I placed a block of wood under the bottom half (6x6), taped the bolt heads to the wheel, and then gently pressed with my knee on the top half when the bolts lined up. This will give you just enough to start some threads. Just use soapy water and don't pinch the tire.
I did mine by myself, but a friend would really help!

What I did is take 2 pieces of one inch square tubing cut them to the length of the rim halves. Drill a hole in the center of the tubing and use a piece of all thread that is 12 to 14 inch long with a nut and washer on each end. As you tighten this the two halves together it will compress them so you can get the rim bolts through each half. I have made a few of them for friends. I would post a pic but don't know how to do it sorry for that.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping for some sort of 'use what ya got tool' and the block did the trick. I worried I would mess them up - and that would be an expensive _ _ _K UP!

akgreg, just to be sure, you are not using Cleveland wheels that were for 8:50x6 tires I hope. Those rims are too wide and the bead and rim will not grip and the tire will spin on the rim.

...remember, life is uncertain, eat desert first!
... and, those that pound their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.
I used soap and some all-thread, once they seat the bolts will go in pretty easy.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
They are the correct set-up, direct from ABW. As to the.......KY.......I'm new here and a little worried about your intentions Zane, I would at least hope for some dinner or something first.......

It's a pilot supplied material for when the FAA rampchecks you, better to supply your own, otherwise.....
