Here's a thought for the resident geek

How about some type of bulletin board, or something to that effect. When someone knows they will be flying and where and when, it could be posted kinda like the flyin/upcoming events thing used to be, and if others want to meet up they can.

Like tomorrow, we have a few leaving for Window Rock NM. mid morning. Probably end up being a lunch, rather than b'fast, but it is pretty chilly here in the morning to get out early enough for b'fast. Maybe if others that were in the area, and knew about it, would have an excuse to go fly. As though anyone would need an excuse. :D

Just a thought. Have a good weekend. Weather is loooookin good here. =D> Gary

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I like that idea. What do you think, Z?

Or maybe open a new topic. When the event is over, you can go back and delete it (if you want).

Good Idea! You don't need to wait for Major Geek. Just start a new thread: Where I'm Gonna Fly

Interesting idea. At first I thought you were suggesting it as a safety thing, like "who didn't check in when they got home?" flight plan sorta deal. I'm not getting into that game.

I do like the idea of a fly-out coordination system though. Let me think about that, because really i think a forum thread isn't the most efficient way to track that. A calendar or map is a better way. I'll do some research to see what's available for regional/date coordination.

Zane

My idea wasn't for a tracking thing. Just a way for others in an area to know if someone else had some plans to go have some fun.

I don't know what you can and can't do, but possably if you could lay it out by state, might be kind of a short cut, and less cluttered, depending on how many want to participate,

I see some definite possibilities for add-ons that already exist for our new website framework. So that means the new website will have to come online at least before I add this. Good idea though, Gary!

I have heard rumors about a new website for a while now. Do you have more time for these things in the winter? I you need some help let me know...don't know jack about computers but can help drink your beer, fly your plane weekly, and keep mama hap....shit (better quit there) while you work on the website.

How about a calendar like on Shortfield.com?

Re: Here's a thought for the resident geek

Maybe this is a good feature for shortfield.com...especially since Zane and I are looking for more ways to integrate features between shortfield and BCP.

Shortfield.com currently has a calendar, but its not directly related to the airstrips. I've been working on new features and one of them is a calendar that is specifically integrated with a lat/long (i.e. airstrip, gravel bar, etc.). With this feature, users could post 'events' and others could see the events in a particular area.

Instead of a "calendar", maybe a feature could allow users to enter mini "flight plans" that basically allows them to list the airports they are going to land at for a given date. Not as a way to track flights, but rather a way to share your approximate location if you want others to meet you.

Any other thoughts?

Good idea, and we could generate a RSS feed of the upcoming events.
