Re: High(er) HP O-300

Definitely looking for updates on this! Going to be a big factor whenever I someday get to my firewall forward. Id be very interested in keeping the current engine if this works out. Any chance for getting an STC for some sort of MT electric constant speed prop? Additional horsepower is awesome, but would be even more awesome to get all of it on takeoff! Thanks for looking for a cheaper alternative for more horsepower.

Yeah, wouldn’t it be great if you could put a constant speed prop on there, get higher horsepower… Maybe a gross weight increase? Full size panel so you can get modern avionics in there? I really wish this was possible…

Wait a minute… It is! It’s called a Cessna 180.

Did you run this engine or any other stock 0-300 on the dyno before you did these mods? It would be interesting to see the difference of before and after.

Kurt, I would’ve liked to… But this engine had bad cam lobes, so it was lunched.

Would love to see this too. Our happy little '62 172 has a nice 600hr O-300-D. Probably never going to get a Lycoming, so this would be a nice mod. Especially if we head north and put it on floats!

Bird is in the shop now… 5 mon into a year plus long restomod. Super300 is pickled on the stand in the corner. Dyno results were a bit more than expected… bird should be a performer for sure!

Stay tuned.

Any updates on this project (if I missed a new thread you started, apologies for missing it.) intrigued by the possibility of souping up the O-300d in my old 172!
