High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Grant and Court,
Thanks so much for the awesome photos and it was a blast hanging out with you guys! It really made the event to be able to look back over the weekend through your amazing photography! Nobody got away with anything. When I would screw up, I'd say to myself "glad nobody saw that!".........and then I'd look up on the ridge, or dune, or rock and see your camera pointed at me!!

Is the copter footage going to Zane for the film? Can't wait to see some of the trailing take offs etc.......

No shots of "crown ridge?" Haha!

Will be in touch to order photos.

Brent

That looks a little sideways...with the left tire looking pretty overworked...I wonder what my landings look like in freeze frame?

My worst landing of the weekend and it is all caught on video and stills, luck me :D

So the story goes like this. Kevin says the bail out is up the hill, ok. Jeremy's engine quits on roll out in front of me so I abort.

Now I am the last or 2nd to last to land. So there is like 10 planes parked. All is well until I am committed. Then it sinks in I am at 9000 plus MSL, DA well above 10,000 MSL

Now bare in mind I am a sea level guy. The ground is going buy like 60MPH, but this isn't the part that freaked me out. All my buddies airplanes are in my bail out zone.

So my brian is SCREAMING DON'T HIT THE PLANES!!!! So I'm like fuck it, don't even think of finessing it, get it down and stopped. I think the pictures tell how well that worked out.

I think the guys said it was the shortest land of the group, something like 350' and I came way to close to putting it on it's nose.

There was a whole lot wrong with that one!!! But I flew it away, so I think that gets it in the great landing classification! Ya, right, who am I kidding.

That Maule spring gear takes a lot to make it flex, and those 29" Air Hawks will take a lickin. I don't recommend this type of air frame testing.

Cheers...Rob

Hey Rob,

Thats a great story but you left out hold my beer and watch this!!! [-X

The video is great. It's really stable.
I think you found a sweet spot and set up for your mount.
Is it on the main gear leg?
Love the "desert" music too!

Here is link to 2 extra Drift battries and in plane/cigarette lighter charging capabilities for $20. Batteries seem fine and the charger set up is servicable.

I still find other ways to miss shots however!

Great pix! Great trip!
Thanks again AK!

Went to the hangar today to clean up the plane, how is it that I can still write my name in the dust on the propeller after flying 3 hrs home?
Oh, and sorry for dusting out the entire dinner group at sundown Saturday eve on takeoff, Should have hung it up earlier

Thanks! I've got to get some ordered.

Re: High Sierra Fly-In 2013 Photo Thread

Ok, stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop torturing me and Joey and all the other poor souls who pretty much call this area "home" and didn't make it.

OK, keep goin.

Serious bout of self pity going on. Or maybe just contempt for work which is why I didn't come. Kevin said I should just quit. He might be right.

Pics are freakin amazing.

Kev - did Frenchmans sell? Seems like Frenchmans would be a great place for a Spring fly in, and this could be the fall fly in.

Also, I think Court and Grant should seriously produce a coffee table book from this. Shut up and take my money!

What an awesome event that must have been. I'm sure many from around the world are envious of the venues and the Camaraderie of the participants in the great US of A.
I for one are still hungry to see more and especially video. Id like to make a request for some posted video of 1) Where did all that tannerite go??? Everybody loves a good explosion or 2..3..4... =D> and how bout some of that good ole American shooting fire power to go with it. 2) Anyone got any cockpit video of the approach and landing into Highboy, Found the lz on GE and it looks challenging, especially at those altitudes, love to see that. [-o<
Thanks for all the photo's posted

It's going to be quite a collaborative video, and a lot of work is going into it. This is the first time we've had so many photographers on the same subject with such good locations and flying. That particular footage is from Tom Waclo, the UAV camera guy.

You guys really know how to drive a guy nuts. Nothing like having to goto work and watch videos of what I missed out on.

Ok enough whining.

Really nice job on the airplane porn. Super high quality! Can't wait to see the whole thing.

Kevin with these videos getting out I think your going to need a bigger lake bed for all the planes next year.
