Highlander jockeys

For those of you that own/fly a Highlander, I'm looking for opinions and experiences. I've seriously been looking at the Highlander. My mission is pretty simple... Camping, fishing, and landing anywhere besides pavement. Occasionally it would be with my wife or my dog, and a little bit of gear. One of her demands for my purchase of an airplane is that it be able to fly us to see her family in South Lake Tahoe. I'm in Northern CA about an hour north of San Francisco, which is essentially sea level. I'm wondering how the highlander/rotax combo performs at higher altitudes, specifically being able to fly us from sea level to 7'000-ish feet. Once in South Lake, I'd like to capitalize on the playgrounds around it in the desert. Thanks for the info!
