That one looks to be quite a ways north for one of these fall storms. In 1977 the record "non hurricane" barometric pressure for north america occurred at 27.35" (927 mb) reading at Dutch Harbor, Alaska on Oct. 25, 1977. That one had the crabbers running for their lives, being somewhat earlier, and in those days the crab seasons were really rocking. We had 102 knots sustained in Cold Bay from that one. I spent all day keeping things tied down and that evening I felt like I'd just lost a major title fight with someone really mean.
If there's anything that reminds me of Cold Bay, it's big Bering Sea storms. I wish the folks on the west coast luck on this one....those storm surges can be devastating to those coastal villages.
