Holy smokes San Jose TFRs

One of the things that I've discovered while living here in sunny SoCal is that you can keep track of the wildfires thru TFRs on Foreflight. I suppose you could do it with any graphical TFR map but Foreflight's just convenient. Tonight while performing the above mentioned activity I noticed that June 6-7 is gonna be interesting around San Jose.

Anybody got any thoughts on what's afoot?

Yeh - he did the same thing to ATL a couple weeks back. The "no fly" screwed several very busy area airports.

Reminds me when Bush and Cheney shut down the Seattle airspace for almost two full days while raising campaign money.

At least it is not an election year when two slates of candidates shut down airspace due to their extended hands.

If it gets any worse, they will just put the elected positions on eBay and let the purchase of power happen more in the open.

CLT's getting hit this week too. Looks like the no-flys tag AKH, JQF, 14A and a host of private strips. The fun apparently begins Thursday... :roll:

Couple people commented about airspace being shutdown, so...

Just a reminder that the airspace is not actually shutdown. All these VIP TFRs mean is that you have to file a flight plan and get a squawk from ATC.

[Edit: The inner cores *are* no-fly. You can only flight plan through the outer rings. See more below]

The central "core" 9-10 NMR is a "no-fly" zone;

A. ALL AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS WITHIN THE 9 and/or 10 NMR AREA(S) LISTED ABOVE, KNOWN AS THE INNER CORE(S), ARE PROHIBITED EXCEPT FOR: MILITARY AIRCRAFT DIRECTLY SUPPORTING THE UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE (USSS) AND THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. COORDINATED AND APPROVED LAW ENFORCEMENT, AIR AMBULANCE AND FIREFIGHTING OPERATIONS MUST RECEIVE APPROVAL PRIOR TO ENTERING THIS AIRSPACE AT 916-366-4080 TO AVOID POTENTIAL DELAYS. REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMERCIAL PASSENGER AND ALL-CARGO CARRIERS OPERATING UNDER ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TSA-APPROVED STANDARD SECURITY PROGRAMS/PROCEDURES: AIRCRAFT OPERATOR STANDARD SECURITY PROGRAM (AOSSP), FULL ALL-CARGO AIRCRAFT OPERATOR STANDARD SECURITY PROGRAM (FACAOSSP), MODEL SECURITY PROGRAM (MSP), TWELVE FIVE STANDARD SECURITY PROGRAM (TFSSP) ALL CARGO, OR ALL-CARGO INTERNATIONAL SECURITY PROCEDURE (ACISP) AND ARE ARRIVING INTO AND/OR DEPARTING FROM 14 CFR PART 139 AIRPORTS.

San Jose appears to have four of those. CLT is blessed with only two as was ATL a couple weeks back.

Good catch. Thanks!

The inner core has never been an issue for me in the Chicago area so I just plain missed that distinction.

Re: Holy smokes San Jose TFRs

Wow - he's really screwing up the west coast this week. First San Jose, now a fund raiser in LA and spending the weekend at a high roller's place in Palm Springs. The Palm Springs TFR effectively closes all the IFR airways through Banning Pass. I bet the rich guys that base their planes at Bermuda Dunes(UDD) are gonna' be real happy to be grounded all weekend...
