Homer, AK
Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

I wanted to fly some family down to Homer for the day and was wondering where to park and the easiest way to get out to the spit for some dinner. I didn't know if there is a taxi company or a place to rent or borrow a car on the south side of the airport. Also any restaurant suggestions would be great.

Last time I was there was about a year ago, and I just rolled up to a hangar where a guy was working on his cub and asked him where transient parking was. He told me I could just tie down outside his hangar if I wanted to.
I *think* transient parking is on the west end of the runway on the north side of it. Google Maps shows a car rental place there as well.
Update us on good eats down there, will ya? I've been meaning to take the family down as soon as the weather clears...

I've used Kostas Taxi (907) 399-8008. There are two car rental places on the airport, one is Hertz and the other is an independent. Actually, as I remember, general transient parking is on the south side of the runway by the rest of the tiedowns - it was marked with cones when I was there last.

Transient is between A and B taxi ways on the south, Kostas is still up and running probably charge you about 12 to get to spit. Best restaurant in town this year is Mermaid, but it isn't on the spit and doesn't really have a view. Wasabi's is good good and great view, but the worst service...maybe in the world, if you go in and expect two hour dinner you will be fine. Captain Paddy's on the spit is really good seafood and a good view. If you are gonna spend the night a fun side trip is the Danny J to the Saltry restaurant in Halibut Cove 399.2683 Reserv needed. Smokey Bay Air has fuel and can get you the taxi.
And now that I have plugged my favorites, I will plug mine.
