There is a great event at the Hood River Airport Sept 7,8,9 I think I'll go up if the wx is nice. This event is well attended, and in a beautiful area. Grass strip! Camp on grass! Anyone else want in??

They're expecting well over 300 planes, have 40+ acres of parking, gonna feed everyone spagetti, lots of events, etc, and the main thing (to me) is the absolutely amazing GA museum.
When they finish the list of worlds most amazing things, this will be about # 11. :)

Stevenson, Washington is 14.5 SM@ 255* directly across the river from Cascade Locks airport. They have cams pointing east, west, and south. Pretty good indicator what is going on in the area.

Here is the TV 2 cam. If you see Mt. Hood the Hood River airport will be in the foreground. They can point the cam any direction though and you never know what they will do.

Hood River ASOS is 134.375. Grass runway is between the taxiway on the north side and the runway. Men and equipment staging to the north of the taxiway where the previous unofficial runway was. We're on the verge of shifting the runway to the east. Big project, luckily the runway won't be closed. :D Rob, check your PM's

Re: Hood River, OR, Sept 7,8,9

Bad timing for a fire to start. It is directly across the river from Hood River AKA Ken Jernstedt airport. There is a TFR close so don't bust it. The wind should keep the smoke off the airport.

Looking at Airnav I am assuming the grass strip is in the longer grass area to the West of the exit about 3/4 the way down. Can we land in both directions on the grass?

Let us know how the smoke from the fire across the river. Does not look too bad right now, but don't know the wind direction.
