hot springs

after scads of practice, i felt comfortable enough to give our local hot springs hot spot a try late one school night last week.

i also took my first try at video editing. definitely not polished or pretty (or all that interesting...i'm definitely interested in getting a second camera), but it's something :).

while i'm excited i can make it in and out of there now, i don't yet have my two-people takeoff distance short enough to be comfortable there :/.

Re: hot springs

Very good. I like the camera angle. For you young guys who are going to be instructors, that is what you see from the back seat of a tandem.

Re: hot springs

Very cool! I like the perspective too. What camera are you using? I ask because I saw no distorted prop.

Re: hot springs

thanks!

it's a plain gopro hero. funny, actually, that there's no prop issue.

maybe the low light had something to do with it?

i'm a total rookie with the art of video stuffs.

Well, rookie, you nailed it. The gopro has a fixed aperture and adjusts shutter speed to compensate for light. So in low light the shutter stays open longer and reduces the prop artifacts. This is why some people put an ND filter on their gopro. It simulates a dimmer day.

Ok. Now that you mention it, I've seen the same thing on my Drift too.

Yup. All the little action cams use the same sensor design called CMOS. It's manufactured like computer chips, which keeps costs down but has the downside of being a "rolling" shutter. You can see an animation that describes this issue far better than words could describe here: http://gizmodo.com/this-hypnotic-gif-ex ... 1742770647
