They say vg's make a huge difference, once I finish my cub I'm going to fly it with out them and then put them on. Every super cub I've flown has had vg's. They must work.

Exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't cut up a new rebuild/new recover to try to install flaps. By the time you're done, you'll have more money in it than you would a standard 150 Cub with flaps more than likely, unless you are stealing it to start with.

If you ARE stealing it, make damn sure ALL the paperwork is squeaky clean, like EVERYthing covered by STC/field approval. And, make absolutely certain that that engine mod was done right. It's not just bolt an engine up front, by the way.

The difference in a cub with and without flaps is more in the takeoff than in the landing. A proficient pilot can land a no flap airplane almost as short as one with flaps. But, flaps do help a bit more on takeoff.

But, starting out with a 90 Super Cub and trying to make it a 150 cub is a spendy project.

I've not had too many non-pilot passengers that enjoy a good slip. Food for thought.

No problem....just tell em it's a new carnival ride...... 8)

And, a competent pilot can land a no flap cub almost as short as one with flaps, unless there are pretty big obstacles, in which case, passengers are going to get a little nervous with that steep descent anyways.

Re: How hard is it to...

Was a little hesitant to post due to the 'posting thread' but will relay a similar experience as the OP's question.
Several years ago I had bought an O-235 powered Champ on floats. Having flown all my previous hours in planes with flaps, I thought I needed flaps on the Champ. Yes, I posted the same question as you, inquiring how hard it would be to install flaps. Long story short....after spending some time learning slips and flying the plane, I realized the plane was great the way it was designed. Sure, flaps may have helped on floats a little, but I ended up being perfectly happy with the plane without them.
