Well, some of you know that that is my local field (something to remember if you ever need help there or at Copalis).
I can tell you what I know and what I've heard.
What I know: I went to my hangar this morning around 9:30am and I could barely get past Lana's because there were so many cars pulling into and out of parking spaces. I would say at least 20 cars. Normally, even in IMC, there is a group of pilots that come in pretty much every Saturday morning. They come in on the ILS is needed. They're pretty consistent. There is a group that comes in on Sundays frequently too (I think they are more VFR dependent. So, Lana's gets a pretty good mix of fly-in and local traffic.
What I've heard: The building is owned by the port which is notorious for not taking care of the airport. I happen to know people that work there and I was told, while standing right in their office, "I f-----g hate the airport; I'd burn it down if I could". The word on the street is that the port will not maintain/repair the Lana's building.
I understand that restaurant will be moving into a vacant location just a few miles away. This location has been a family restaurant and Mexican restaurant in recent times; both have failed. I would fear that after they leave the air field, there is nothing special enough about their food to make sure they succeed.
I suspect without the restaurant, far fewer people are going to fly in and buy fuel.
Having said that the port hates the airport, I should probably clarify a couple of things before I get flamed.
First, the port commission has tried to close the airport in favor of having the land available for other uses. They see little to no value in the airport.
On the other side, Willis Enterprises recently made a long-term lease deal with the port on a huge hangar building and them put tons of money into it.
Maybe just a coincidence, but shortly after that deal, the local radio suddenly had commercials on it about how much the port cares about it's airport.
Lastly, I have no idea what causes airfield upgrades, but we were recently upgraded from a VASI to a PAPI.
Sorry for the long-winded reply to a simple question but I just couldn't stop

I personally like the airport somewhat neglected because our hangar rent is super low (shhhhh..... dont tell).
