I am Pumped about the Johnson Creek Fly-In

:! :!: I haven't been this excited about anything since I bought the Maule back in Decemeber. (the initial repair bills have tainted that just a tad) I have been planning and plotting and figuring . Today we took the back seat out. That thing is like a truck with the back seat out. We are planning on spending the first night at Townsend MT. (Fuel is 4.35 there). Hope to be in Johnson creek by 9AM on Friday the 27th. Can't wait to meet all of you. Hope you don't mind teaching a novice the ropes on mountain flying and fly fishing.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. This is my first BCP event too. By the way, is there any schedule of events? I can't get there until Saturday morning because I'm taking the McCall Mtn Course which doesn't end until Friday night. I'm worried that when I fly over on Sat morn, everyone will be out flyin' and I wont know where to join the group.

rubbing it in.

I know you guys will just have a ball. I have a daughter with her 4 children coming down from Everett, WA and a daughter coming up from Burbank, CA with her 2 children that week.

Because of their scheduling conflicts that is the only week that they can both come.

Thinking of you

Looking forward to having everyone in my neck of the woods again. I'll keep my ears open. I don't have a plane anymore, so no flyins at the moment (and a tiny baby at home keeps me around too...)

I'll be on the lookout though

Alex,
I am taking the McCall course as well we can just head for McCall and find a spot. I imagine there will be some of the guys to fill us in on what is going on. I am having some work done on the aircraft in Caldwell but I am arriving at McCall Saturday morning 6/21/08.
I have to admit I'm really getting hyped  Hey Mark now I know who to look for instead of yelling Yo Mark!!!

I have to drive to the SF Bay Area and back on the 20th to the 23rd so I can't get to McCall until the morning of the 24th. Hopefully the weather is good when I need to leave.

Are you staying in McCall from 21st to the 24th or, exploring the area on your own?

There's no schedule of events. You can pretty much just plan on meeting some new people and doing a lot of campfire BSing. Try to avoid drowning in the Johnson Creek snowmelt runoff if you plan to fish.

I hate to quell any excitement, but if you're asked to join in on a fly-out, don't get roped into doing something over your head, or into something that you're not even sure what the skill level required is. I know I always sounds like the nagging nancy, but the Berk accident is still hanging over us.

I'm super excited too. Long XC, camping, fishing, time with my dad, face to face with the BCP gang...it's gonna be fun.

Alex. I don't know what time your course ends but remember it stays light there till around 9 PM. It's only a 20 minute flight over.

Hi guys, I too am looking forward to seeing old friends and new. I want to here about the McCall school.

Places to go. Big Creek, Sulfur Creek. The guys who have spent more time in the area are our best resource.

Galen is going to be there. He might have an idea.

If George tries to take you to Mile High or Vines look out.

This is going to be fun.

I'll at JC before dark Thursday.

Cheers....Rob

Don't sweat it, George or anyone is happy enough if you just circle overhead and watch. There is never pressure to land anyplace you don't feel comfortable. We watched him land at Simone and Dewey Moore from overhead and it was cool enough.

Dave, you are 100% right on. I was only kidding. Us new guys learn a lot from guys like George.

Fly safe...Rob

I guess I should mention I'm leaving Grants Pass at dawn on friday morning, so I'll be in McCall around 11am most likely, considering that when I plan for a dawn departure, it means an hour after.

I am not sure what I will do Sunday, Monday. I know for sure I am going to get some time in with the new VG's & patroller doors so I may stay in Caldwell for an additional day. I put in the buffer time in case the work on my aircraft gets extended.

I've flown back to JC after a day of fishing as late as 9 and it is still very do able. For someone new to canyon flying I would suggest be on the ground by 8:30 PM. Check the JC camera tonight at various hours and you'll get an idea...
