I need 337's for a 206 Fork on a 172!
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
I am trying to put a 206 front fork with a 6:00/6 and 8:00/6's on the mains. I really don't need the width of the 8:50's, I just want a more height for prop clearance since mine is a 61 with the 4" shorter gear legs. I talked to the guy at Landes (I'm sorry I forgot his name, he was very helpful) a few months ago and he suggested doing my own STC. I have several ads for planes with the same configuration (mostly in Alaska) so I know it is possible. I started the work on an STC but I haven't done much lately. My STC would allow a 206 Fork with 6:00, 7:00, or 8:00's on the front and 7:00/, 8:00's on the mains. Landes has the STC for the bigger tires so I didn't bother with the 8:50's. I started at the 61 model because that is when the gear legs were changed. Both the guy at Landes and my mechanic told me that I need to get copies of other peoples 337's for this modification. That way I can show it is a safe and a previously approved modification. I need some copies of peoples 337's! If any one would be willing to send me a copy of their 337 which includes the 206 front fork please let me know. Thanks

A 337 from a 76 model or a 56 model 172 will not be of much use. You need one from a 172 that is in the same series as yours.
I do not think an 800 will fit in a 206/310 fork. Sidewall clearance is the problem.
In 62 the 182 was offered with a large fork so that would be a log book entry as long as you used a 600.
I did a from scratch 337 for my 182B. I run 600's all the way around and will go to 700's on the mains when I use up what is on it now. Will stick with the 600 up front.

I will pull the 8:00 front tire off the STC Form if you don't think it will fit. That might be too high any way since the 206 fork and a 6:00 will raise it almost 4". I don't think my 172B had the option of the bigger front fork since a 6:00 isn't even an option. That is what is crazy, I have a 150J and I can put a 6:00 front tire on it but not the 172.

If there's not a STC for your airplane it is possible to have a one time STC
or Field Approval. If your local I.A. can't get signed by the feds hire a DAR
or DER to sign off on it. Most will be slam dunk 200-500 bucks should cover
it. Then your legal if you want. 337 's for 1961 172's (with big nose wheel ) are easy to get-just remember costly . As Far as the big mains there are lots of those out there some legal -some not. Get a Good A&P /I.A. to submit paperwork to feds. I teach a class on how to get this done from time to time. Cost of education is $500.bucks on "how to get a field approval from the FAA" . When I sign a 337 minimum is 200 bucks for something that is already been done. Or you can just buy a airplane that has been done >look Alaska .

You're correct, there isn't enough room for a 8.00 bc of the sidewall in a 206 fork. As a result, I run either a 7.00 or 7.50 on the nose and 8.00's on the mains on my 182J

Contact the Cessna Pilots Assoc. If someone has a 337 for what you want to do they will email it to you. Been there, done that.
