ICP Savannah drivers, how are things going?

Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.

ICP Savannah drivers, how are things going?

There might be cooler planes out there, but the Savannah seems to do what it says on the tin, and to be atleast "good enough" at everything. How is it working out for you? There seems to be a bit limited baggage space, but how has it worked out as a going-places plane? Did you build it yourself, and do yoy have any words of wisdom for someone planning to go down that path? An has anyone tried the taildragger yet? Seem like visibility over the snout is a bit limited, but I guess the tail comes up quickly enough to see where you're going...

A BCP pilot from Kansas City came by with the Jabiru 100 hp model several years ago. I looked through old posts and didn't come up with him. Chime in here whoever you are. Anyway I was impressed with the airplane, and pilot. The light weight and really effective full flaps made the no wind apparent brisk walk rate of closure approach similar to with the no flap J-3 or 7AC with some headwind.

With the S-model the Savannah has evolved into what some of think is actually a good-looking aircraft! But I am annoyed that I can't for the life of me find out what the dimensions of the baggage space is! Judging by what other people do with it, it seems to be "enough".

I don't know where he lived, but Chosstronaut (https://backcountrypilot.org/community/chosstronaut/profile) flew a Savannah with a Jabiru engine, I think. Could you be thinking of him? Sadly he perished in a mid-air a few years back... He seemed like a knowledgeable Savannah driver, and he did indeed go on a bunch of great little adventures in it. From time to time I look up his videos on youtube for a little inspiration.

No, it wasn't him. I too enjoyed his videos. Kansas City or somewhere in Kansas. He may not have been BCP. On cross country take toothbrush and credit card and patience. Much faster than old Cubs and Champs if you leave the two big round 31" parachutes at home. We eventually got there in old Cubs and Champs. Leave the stick alone and use the rudder and you can nap just a bit. Wing wag with ailerons and it will be a long trip.
