ID Aviation Expo

Is anyone attending the ID Aviation Expo. Originally from Blackfoot, so I was thinking about flying over, catching Saturday of the Expo and seeing some old friends.

Re: ID Aviation Expo

I'm going to the Fly-in breakfast/spot landing contest at Carey, a benefit for the local S & R and local fire department. A grass strip...... screw that controlled concrete at IF! All that grass in the median but noooooo, you can't land there #-o

Then I have a a neighbor who is having his annual horse shoe golf tourney. All of the local ski patrol folks from the area above will be there. He lays out a course on his hilly and wooded 5 acres (complete with a stream for a water hazard) and has 18 holes, like golf, but you throw horseshoes instead of hit a golf ball. Lots of food and adult beverages, and maybe some loose women, some even single. Plus it's dangerous enough to be interesting, we really should all have hard hats on, including the dogs. This cleared path the event takes place on doubles as his fire break. He requested a safe and legal flyby if I'm up, so I'll oblige while on short final to my place.

Too bad the events, all three, conflict, but still, screw that concrete, I get less and less tolerant of it and especially the inane blind following of 'the rules" disallowing a request to land on the turf [-X

Courier, you need to work on letting your feelings be know to the group. Bottling up your emotions does no good... :D

I'm taking a friend who is a student pilot, and we are doing our fair share of off-airport / gravel / turf runways here, but thought the long XC would be fun...

Would like to see your craft sometime. Maybe later this summer.

I'm trying to get a feel for what it's about. Their website doesn't promote it very well. There's vendors and speakers, but no clues as to what's on display or talked about. I need some approaches, so maybe I'll file ifr for the 15 minute flight there and back to make sure I at least get something for the log book out of it.

Re: ID Aviation Expo

Bob Hoffman is putting a lot of energy and money into this thing, and I'm told that not that many folks have showed up in past. I hope more folks will turn up and show some support for aviation in Idaho this year. It takes a lot of work to put one of these things on, so please consider showing up, if nothing else just to see what it's about.

Bob and Jane Hoff are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet, so drop by and thank them for their hard work in making this thing happen.

X2, about Bob and Jane; great people and very generous aviation supporters. Hoped to go but called away for work.

I was there last year. It's worth going to. If you get there early enough, you can get a pre-release copy of fly idaho version 3 from Haslen's booth.

Re: ID Aviation Expo

Pretty slow at the expo. I had lots of fun but not many people around. Think the poor weather kept a lot of fly in people away.

I'm headed back over at 2 for a "Day in the life of a backcountry pilot" presentation. I want to make it to Patrick's "STOL Tips" presentation at 4 but not sure I'll make it.
