ID Backcountry Adventure in Mooney...yes M20C! Pics & Vid!

Alright so I guess I'll get ready for those to give the antic "Mooney's Aren't backcountry planes." But that's okay because I have safely traversed several field in Idaho that weren't a problem for my airplane or me at all. I had a great time with my friend Wayne and look forward to returning to them next year and camping/hiking/exploring them more, as my summer will soon be coming to an end. Anyway enjoy the pictures!

Fields visiting in order...... KPLU--McCall(MYL)-- Johnson Creek (3u2) Aka JC Set up camp-- early morning Saturday-- Mahoney Creek (0U3)- Thomas Creek (2u8)- Flying B (Pvt- 12ID) -Back to Johnson Creek -- Early sunday Morning-- Warren(3u1)-- Chamberlain (U79)-- Back to JC to pack-up then went to Rogersberg (D69)---Lewiston(LWS) and then home to PLU!

Ready to go camping!

Thomas Creek Looking south...The hill makes it 1 way in and out, unless you got a rocket!

The curve in Thomas creek makes it fun and different than normal strips! Looking South

Across the river that's to the North of the strip there is a Ranger station

Next we flew took off for Flying B for breakfast which is just south of Bernard USFS this is en- route...
Image
This is arriving at the Flying B which is a private strip that is now offering breakfast and lunch (see shortfield.com for details) it $20.00 cash. And it was awesome!! You can see the strip on the north part of the picture (very green area!)...far north is Bernard USFS strip (Barely visible beyond the curve in the river. The ranch is mid left in the tree's. The cook comes out to the strip in a pickup with a trailer and you jump in and ride over. The cinnamon rolls, eggs, fresh milk are amazing along with everything else at this amazing place in the backcountry, only accessible by boat/plane/packing in the truck was flown in!
Image
From here we went back south to Indian Creek. Here we met and talked to the Ranger Kim. She was very friendly and had lots of great things to tell us about the area!

From Indian creek we went back to JC. Upon arriving we met up with some other pilots that just so happen to be from Redmond area based out of Paine field. They were headed into town so we went with them for dinner. They have a courtesy van(s) for $8.75 you can go into town and back (10Miles around trip) The food was great and after this we found out they had a golf course...fee to pay $1.00 (with clubs) and for a lifetime membership...$10.00! It was of course more like big mini golf, well worth the cost and fun & could be better had we had a few drinks with us!
Early morning Sunday we went to Warren first nice old mining town -not alot of people

After Warren we went to Chamberlain

Paul and Beverly are the caretakers at JC. They are an awesome couple to talk about flying with, very friendly and have lots of great stories. They are out of Bend, OR
Image
Last picture on the way out of JC we flew over towards Memaloose -25U but it was muddy so we said no way and continued on to Rogersburg ] Image

This is my buddy Wayne who flies out of PLU as well --looking South/upstream next to the Snake

After Rogersburg I hit up Lewiston for some gas then we flew home with a wonderful 30Kt headwind...now why was that wonderful you ask! Well I went back to Pierce county/home repacked and showered and then flew a long leg back to Idaho falls to visit my brothers. So despite a headwind on the short leg it was a big benefit on the 481NM trip to IDA!
Well, Happy Flying everyone!

Was Backcountry Mooney M20C

Re: ID Backcountry Adventure in Mooney...yes M20C! Lots of pics!

I like this one:

Image

I upped the max embedded image dimensions to 1024 pixels. The reason it was capped at 950 was to make it easier on the number of people still browsing over dialup. Also, not everyone has a super high desktop resolution. That's the reason I set the intermediate image size in our gallery to 650 px wide: It makes for an optimal embeddable size that doesn't hog unnecessary bandwidth in order to view the post, while keeping the original size available in the gallery for linking. Photobucket should have the same thing available.

Great pictures and I know they had a good time. Obviously the pilot has skills.

I wonder why you would take a nice plane like that and beat on it in the dirt. Is that not like taking a Corvette four wheeling?

You rock, Piperpainter!

Very cool. Thanks also for all your pireps over at shortfield.com. I'm using them to plan my Idaho/Montana trip next week. When I saw the aircraft type on those pireps I thought "no way!" =D>

Great Pics....I need to get over to Idaho!
Looks like you had your work cut out for you getting that mooney in and out safely (not dinging the gear and prop). Great job.
