ID8 Marble Creek Idaho this weekend 2-24-24

Now that I live in Idaho, and I'm tired of the house project, and the weather is pretty nice, I'd like to get into the Church this weekend. I'm planning on going into ID8 this Saturday to camp out. Maybe go look for a wolf to perforate.
Anyone else want to meet there?

Is Marble Creek free from snow?

Take a look at the Idaho Aviation Webcams. Big Creek and JC are still full of snow. Upper and Lower Loon appear snow free for now. Not sure your ski equipped but certainly worth looking before you leap.

It's going to be snowy and soggy for a few months yet.

I grew up in Salmon, did you recently move there? I fly up from TWF pretty regularly.

Last Wednesday Lower Loon was dry, Cougar was free of snow, Mahoney had a few small patches of snow, Thomas had a few frozen puddles in the middle. Temperatures this week have been in the 40's. If there is any snow, I'll likely not land, I'll go to Indian or somewhere else. Thomas and Lower Loon are plowed in the winter, the others are not. Its probably a function of orientation as to whether they are free of snow or not.

Still Learning,

I'd be very cautious with Marble Creek. This time of year is tricky. My strip is still frozen about 4" down and is tight and firm in the mornings and softens up in the afternoons when the temps get above freezing. (those patches of snow have no place to go when they melt- life when you have a lot of bentonite in the soil)

Thanks for the concern Jim. I am concious of the situation with mud and snow.

I didn't go into the backcountry today, winds aloft forecast was for 40kts at 12,000. I needed to get some maintenance done anyway, did one lap in the pattern in the afternoon, it wasn't nice.

Out of town next week, once back will see what the backcountry has to offer.
