Idaho cabin and airstrip wanted

I'm casually interested in purchasing a cabin in Idaho. Prefer remote, view, >400' strip or room for one, hangar or room to build, and can be off-grid. Any leads appreciated.

Bump

Look for Mike Chapman in McCall. He specializes in just such properties.

I have to run, so do not have time to look him up right now.

Nice guy - Loves to talk planes - back country flying - and old trucks.

He currently flies a Bush Hawk - Had a T206 - His wife is also a pilot.

Gotta run

I know this isn't quite what your looking for but I thought i'd share this info. You can rent a lot of the Forest service Cabins. Most of the ones in Alaska are accessible by float plane. I haven't researched this a lot but I'm sure some in the lower 48 would be near an airstrip. Might make for some great weekend getaways.

Re: Idaho cabin and airstrip wanted

I would not trust Mike Chapman or refer him to my worst enemy!

During my Big Creek incident he was all helpful and this and that with how great our fix was, and so on, etc. Even went out of his way to help.

Then when it came to crunch time he bold faced lied in the NTSB court and proceeded to exaggerate even more so....I feel sorry for the scum bag!

I should not post this stuff here...but thats honest. Mike Chapman is a bad person and karma will catch up to him I am certain.

I am sure you can find someone else to help in Idaho other than him.

Sorry...

On salmon river, plenty of wildlife, good hunting, so many strips in the mountains around here you want ever get bored.

Log Home ( Big Cabin) Hangar and more on nice strip.

Paul, This sounds like you are moved into the new house! That's good.

Paul is a great guy, and what a location he has. Besides all of the remote strips up his valley, he has a thousand gravel bars to play on.

If you don't get in his "big" cabin, he has three wonderful smaller ones.

Re: Idaho cabin and airstrip wanted

Google "Mackay Bar", both for cabins and for videos of flying in there. There are some cabins for sale there that are well off their historic high prices, but still too rich for me. It's at the confluence of the South Fork and Main Fork of the Salmon, right next to the Frank Church wilderness area. There's a nice airstrip already there, and it's only 2100 ft. elevation, so it's accessible practically all year long. It's low enough to get some real heat in the summer, though. If you only want a summer cabin, I'd look for something at higher elevation.

Check out the Leadore area. It is still undiscovered, and affordable. The flying is some of the best in the state as far as scenary and off airport landing fun (unlike the Frank Church). Just my 2 cents worth.

If I was going to buy in that area of Idaho, I don't think I'd work with anyone besides Red. She's a great lady and meeting her at JC was a pleasure.

I agree with 58Skylane, those other realtors might be fine, but after getting two "group hugs" at the JC super cub deal, Red is who I'd spend my money with. A great family, those Dory's.

Another thing, too. Red has great connections with in the Idaho real estate business, custom home builders and land excavators (Big Bite Excavation if your looking to build an airstrip as an example). Also aircraft sales and building hangars. Give her a call!!

I ran across this, might work:

You could sell off the timber for an airstrip but you would need to deal with the stumps.

Red would be my pick. I live next door to the property in High Valley.

Re: Idaho cabin and airstrip wanted

There is a great strip for sale just south of Salmon, and a little north of Tendoy. A 1500' grass strip, nice house, not a McMansion so affordable, and I think it sits on 40+ acres or so, and right by a river. About 750K if I recall correctly, it's been on the market for more then a year. It seems like a killer deal to me, and it's hard to believe someone hasn't jumped on it.

Re: Idaho cabin and airstrip wanted

I've flown over that house and strip in High Valley, that Red has listed, and Wow, what a spot. We've flown over there a few times, going from Caldwell to Johnson Creek. Damn, it's Beautiful.... She's been telling me it's a deal and to check it out, but unfortunately, I'm so broke that if it took a nickel to crap, I'd have to throw up...
