Idaho this Weekend 4/24/13

My Daughter and I are headed to Idaho for our annual father/daughter camping trip (thanks for steeling my thunder Joey, haha!). Leaving North Bend Oregon this evening about 5:30 and headed direct to Chukar Flats. Camping there tonight, and then launching for Moose Creek in the morning to meet up with Oregon 180 and possibly a few others. Going to explore and probably go up to Sheerer and Fish Lake and possibly end up in Mccall for breakfast Friday Morning. If the weather is still looking good, we may head back out, JC, Big Creek area etc.

Anyway, feel free to say high if you see us, Red/White Maule. I'll try and update this thread with pictures as we go.

And if you are bored, keep an eye on the spot link at the bottom of my post. Thanks!

Have fun Brent. I just went through the McCall/New Meadows area on Sunday. Weather was spotty and changing all the time. South of there a ways by Homedale/Ontario it was gorgeous. Hopefully you get some good weather. Dress warm...it's still winter in those parts. I went from freezing to 90 degrees coming down into the Sac Valley from Winnemucca on Monday.

I may be in McCall for breakfast on Friday around 9am so I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll be dropping into the Hells strips after breakfast.

Brent, I was just at Chuckar Flat this afternoon! Sorry I missed you. Came home without a single bite. Waters too cold I guess. I'm jealous :? You're heading out on same flight plan my wife and I are hoping for in July. Can't wait to see your pictures and pilot reports. Hope you got warm sleeping bags!

Had a nice night at Chukar. The Lopresti landing lights work great on this old bird! In LaGrande. Headed into Reds on the way to Moose Creek.

Scott, sorry we missed you.
Blackrock, we will try to meet up in McCall Friday. I was thinking of heading into Hells canyon on the way home. That may work out.

My phone died so no pictures of Moose Creek, but it was beautiful and in great shape. Oregon 180 met up with us and we ran into IdahoMaule driver and Chadd. Good to see you guys! Temps have been really nice, typical Idaho cool nights and warm during the day. Maddie and Sixten had ablast running all over the Moose Creek grounds and throwing rocks in the river.

McCall for breakfast this morning.

My son and I met up with Highroad and his daughter at Moose Creek. This is the earliest time of the year I've been into Moose Creek, and it was beautiful as ever. We had a great time! Here are some pictures:

Yep. Bout this time of year my jealousy and depression set in watching you guys fly those sick places. I'm dying to get back up there. Enjoy and appreciate being able to land in so many cool spots and just pitch a tent and catch fish. Texas is cool but all the land is owned and try staying in a tent from may to October. You'll melt. Y'all keep posting the awesome trips and pics so I can keep the dream alive. :P
Awesome pics guys!! May move yet one of these days :D

Re: Idaho this Weekend 4/24/13

Sorry I missed you guys, I left McCall about 11:00am on Friday and didn't hear you on the radio on the way out. Oh well, next time. We had breakfast at the Pancake House and then left for Big Bar. I'll post those photos on the "where did you fly today" thread once they are uploaded.

Looks like you all had a great time at Moos Creek. Great to see those kids having so much fun! =D>

Re: Idaho this Weekend 4/24/13

Sorry we missed each other, Mike. Between breaking camp, kids, taking the scenic route and the time difference between northern and central Idaho, we didn't make it to mccall until soon after you left.

Good to hear you had a good time in Hells Canyon. Hopefully we'll meet up soon somewhere.

Highroad and Oregon180,
It was a pleasure visiting with you guys Thursday night at Moose Creek. No other campers showed up after you left so we had the strip to ourselves Friday night. Please let me know next time you head up this way and we will get together again.

Great to see you again! Sorry we didn't stay around longer, had a few other places I wanted to explore before heading home.
Let's do it again, maybe late in the season and get up to Fish Lake etc.

Re: Idaho this Weekend 4/24/13

Well, made it home this afternoon, what a great weekend. I started this thread to hopefully run into some great people out in the backcountry, and we did. But mainly, it was to share my daughter and I's experience. We have to give credit to Oregon180 as he mentioned several years ago that he and his daughter try and go on a yearly camping trip, just the two of them.......hopefully I would of figured it out on my own at some point, but that got the wheels turning and thus a tradition was born in the Pahls family also. Obviously, we can do this with our boys as well, but that comes more naturally. There is something about fathers spending one on one time with their daughters that is really important, and I think that getting out in the outdoors is a great way to really share some special moments.

So, back to the TR:
Friday, we enjoyed the pool at the Best Western across from the airport and that evening we walked into McCall and got something to eat down at the waterfront. Maddie decided we should call a taxi to get back to the Hotel as the walk into town was all the walking she planned to do that day......she also said Silas (our skinning dog) was tired of walking also. So, we called up the local taxi and got our ride back to the Hotel. We walked back over to the airport to check on X-ray and watch the sun go down.

Look what we found parked with X-ray
Image

Maddie has come up with more ways to use these tires than AKBushwheel could of ever imagined. Over the weekend, she used them as a spring board, a slide, a measuring device for how much she grew in the last few days, and to make shade in the Owyhee sun.
