Illumination for lower panel in Cessna 18X
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Does anyone have any clever solutions for lighting the lower panel (the switches, fuses, etc) of a Cessna 18x? I'm in the process of having my upper panel redone with all the mod cons (LEDs under the glare shield, LED wedge lights around the remaining steam gauges) but the lower panel is going remain in all it's unlit, beige 1973 glory. I was thinking that a LED strip under the 'lip' of the upper panel where it overhangs the lower panel might do the trick, tied into the rheostat. Something like this:

I put an LED under my glareshield a few months ago, it lights up anything on the panel fine enough.

Hey folks - update on this. The little aero-led light strip in a u-channel over the lower panel is now installed (along with lovely new panels) in my 185. Just got these photos from the AME today - work in progress, but i think it's going to be just the ticket for those dark night flights.

That’s a pretty sweet panel. With all that glass you barely need external illumination, but I see what you’re talking about with the lower panel physical controls.
