I read this book a while back. It is an amazing story of perseverance, both of the "hero" of the story, and of his family, who were interned by the Japanese in Manila. Frankly, I thought the book was a little long, but worth reading for a perspective on the war in the Pacific in the early days of WWII.
The hero of the story was the guy who invented the "gun nose" for the B 25, designed to attack Japanese shipping, since attempting to bomb ships from altitude was pretty pointless, and harmless to the ships.
I can't even imagine coming in at mast height at a ship firing a half dozen .50 calibers, then pulling up right overhead......hoping the Japanese gunners weren't great shots.....
