Indian Valley Reservoir strip

A buddy shot me the lat longs for this strip. It's just SE of Indian Valley Reservoir and about 50 miles NW of Sacramento. Looking at the google earth it appears fairly large. The reservoir is on BLM land so assuming this is too. Anyone know anything about it? Link http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s ... 8&t=h&z=14

Think were gonna go check it out tomorrow and wanted to see if anyone here knew anything about it.

Looks cool Joey. You headed up there with Emmet? Pretty soon the leash will be off me and I can go explore too. Let us know what you find out.

Looks like the Wilbur hotsprings strip to me.
I take a machete up there every other year.
Bushes grow towards the strip making it 30ft narrow at wing height near the middle.

Sure looks like it's right there together. I had never heard of those Hotsprings looks like a really nice place to visit sometime. So I am assuming it's not a private strip?

Looks like the strip is about 3 miles north by northwest of the hot springs.

Re: Indian Valley Reservoir strip

I've flown over the strip but haven't landed there yet. I would enjoy hooking up with you guys there and I'll bring a chainsaw. (Jeremy also warned me about the encroaching branches.)

Re: Indian Valley Reservoir strip

Cool little strip needs some work though. There were several piles of rocks in the middle of the strip that people had piled to shoot at. I only had about 400ft usuable between two of them. I spent about an hour picking up rocks and trash off the strip. The surface is in pretty good shape. It's also pretty narrow with the brush. At the narrowest place I paced off 12 paces which I estimate is about 36 feet. It has rising terrain on both ends both nothing too crazy. Landing to the North is downhill. Elevation is 2250 ish. No water around but definitly some places to pitch a tent not far from the strip. I look forward to going back. I didn't take many pics but you get the idea.

Looking towards the South End. I'm guessing it's around 1000ft or so.

This was one of the narrower spots...not a lot of room for screwing around on roll out

Image

There's enough room on the South End to get your plane clear off the runway

Re: Indian Valley Reservoir strip

Using the measuring tool on google earth its over 1800ft long. Looks like a nice little strip, I'd like to check it out some time since I'm moving out there soon (I'll be keeping my plane at vcb).

Re: Indian Valley Reservoir strip

I finally added this to the shortfield.com database. AvidFlyer, I uploaded one of your photos, but it would be great if you (or someone else) could login and add more information:
http://www.shortfield.com/index.php?option=com_jumi&fileid=5&Itemid=125&snum=sf_indianvalleyreservoir&initlat=39.0697&initlong=-122.4444

Anyone got video of it?

I've been upgrading shortfield a lot lately and there are some new features and a few "broken features". I'll be cleaning things up over the next 2 weeks...more information soon.
