Sad to say I hear a lot of that on the radio when flying x-country, mostly into Arizona and Utah (St. George). I put the blame squarely on poor quality flight instruction. Unfortunately, I also hear too much of it on 122.9 in the backcountry too.

One of the most recent and egregious events I witnessed was a group of Katmai's flying out of the Root Ranch at the end of June last year. Besides each pilot sounding a lot like the guy in the recording, they had 4-planes in the pattern at Chamberlain (wilderness strip) doing touch and go's, at two different times during the day. We were camped there with a group friends; we were all in complete awe and disbelief. :roll:
