Interstate Cadet and Kent Pietsch
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
Over time there have been posts about Pietsch and his restorations of and flights in the Cadet. Many have seen his amazing performances at air shows.
This month Air and Space magazine has an article about Kent and a mystery plane. A young woman named Cornelia Fort was giving a flying lesson when she and her student in an Interstate Cadet had a close encounter with a Japanese Zero over Hawaii. It was early morning December 7, 1941. She safely landed and the story of the plane was lost to history. Kent researched and finally located and restored what he guessed was that plane.
It is a great article and you should look for it. The magazine was given to me and I don't know if it is available on news stands or online.

In response to the article. They showed the page from Cornelia's logbook and turns out the airplane Peitsch has is a sister ship to the one flown by Cornelia. The flight service had bought more than one Fleet for their operation.
Still a great article and a lot of research.
Always lots of nice articles in every issue of this magazine. Join "Air and Space Smithsonian" and get every edition.

Courierguy, spoken like a true BCP. Only a chopper out-performs his work close to the ground and often at DAs of over 8K.
X2 full recovery for Kent.
Sad about the Interstate Cadet. Many including me were looking forward to his performance at Reno in September.
