Re: IO-520 cylinders #1&2 running cool

I have GAMIs on my 520. #1 & 2 are my coolest CHTs as well.

On #2, 4 & 6 you can change the CHT distribution significantly by playing with the height of the front baffle. I still have aluminum tape on #6 that raised the #6 CHT and cooled #2. The result is dramatic, and fairly linear. IOW, if you add some tape to raise #6 by 30f, then it will drop #2 by roughly the same 30f. One of these days I’ll install a permanent baffle there.

Ok, thanks Cannon. I'll try lowering my front baffle a bit.

Re: IO-520 cylinders #1&2 running cool

I know this may not be your problem but an acquaintance was chasing CHT’s using his JPI monitor on a big bore Continental and we found that the “mechanic” that installed the monitor used Lycoming’s cylinder positioning. Just verify yours is installed correctly before wasting a lot of time.
