IO520 Vibration !?HELP?!
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
Hi all,
thanks for all the great suggestions (and some scary thoughts) the local top dressing pilot was telling me about a Cessa188 that flew in one day for a check and the engine fell out when they undid the cowls!! The top engine mount stringers were still bolted to the engine frame and the bottom was the hinged jobby, the whole engine just folded down.
As of tonight I think I have found and fixed the problem, the exhaust was still touching the cowling. Every time we moved something, and adjusted the exhaust hole in the cowl the vibration lessened but would then touch somewhere else. I found the last two points of contact today and did a quick flight just before dusk.
Smooth as a babies! I can now even use the AH!
Thanks for all your input it has been very encouraging.
Cheers Mit

Always good when someone lets us know the outcome of a problem they've asked about. Could save someone else some grief trying to identify the same problem in another instance. Good luck Mit.
