Is anyone here still on dial-up Internet service?

Looking to find out who isn't on high-speed broadband or mobile wireless for their smartphone.

Internet service speeds are across the board, so I'm not interested in whether the site seems fast or slow. I just am curious about what service you've subscribed to if it's not high speed broadband.

I just read that AOL still makes $500 million a year on dial up services.

Its typical in our area for the Older generation to still be on dialup, however I am using wireless tethering.

Gump, the people that are still on dial up will have to wait 2 hours for that video to download so they can watch it :D

Anyone thats said hell with your local telephone company and went with verizon for your internet, land line, cell phones. They have a little base station type of deal that looks pretty interesting. With dial-up a person should be paid for using it.

Spend a nickel to make a dime but dont spend a dime to save a nickel

Re: Is anyone here still on dial-up Internet service?

Being a cheap bastard, I was a holdout with my $22 dialup until I finally got sick of the slow speed & got verizon wireless. $50 a month but worth it just for less aggravation. Supposed to be 4G but where I live it's on 3G, and on the slow side of that.

I have a Clear Voyager. It's like $50 to buy and $50 a month for unlimited TV (ROKU) and internet. I like it because it works off 4G. I love it because it is tiny and you can have internet anywhere there is service. I am actually sitting in a parking lot at Marina Del Rey writing this. 80 degrees today :D The battery lasts about 8 hours and it's about the size of a small cookie. Works great while traveling and at home too. I can run 5 wireless devices off this thing. For any of you that might still be paying AOL, It's free if you cancel your subscription!!!

Re: Is anyone here still on dial-up Internet service?

The rural electric co-op 10 years ago got into broadcasting wireless broadband signals from 40 miles away to anyone renting the receiver box and the antennae. 41 bucks and I get a dividend check back each year that makes it cheaper yet than the competition. Since no major cell providers give a crap about us out here either, in the last 5 years the old phone co-op jumped in to cell phones and are running a profitable business in a 75 mile radius.

Zane- I'm the first three options. Didn't vote cause I use all three equally.

yeah, my verizon gizmo craps out fairly regularly-- drops the connection & shows all red lights. The computer screen comes up saying something like yur connection was ended. Generally does this right after I slowly & painfully type out a long entry for a BCP.org thread & try to post it (f***ing technology!!!), so I have to start all over or (usually) just say to hell with it.

Personally, I fear this with any forum or post where I have spent time composing, so I select all my text and copy it prior to hitting Submit, just in case the connection or server pukes.
