Is there a competitor to 26" Airstreak tires?

I know Alaskan Bushwheels are great, but is there any competition on the market?
I dont consider 26" GoodYears competition, just not the same from a weight factor
for Experimental aircraft that's for sure let alone the integrated tube design.

Curious what else is out there to consider, if anything... Thanks all!

In a word: No.

In a few more: Nothing even close.

Alas, it's true. But if you did have to deviate, the Goodyears give at least some improved flotation, are smooth (don't fling rocks) and wear like iron on pavement if you operate a lot in that environment.

Are you looking for something to go on a certified plane or experimental? Makes a big difference as there are a few options that will help considerably over standard type tires if you are putting these on an experimental aircraft.
Granted these tires may not be as big as AkBushwheels but I think they will be sufficient for most peoples flying needs.

Okay, just reread your post and I see it is for an experimental. Check the Kitfox site as there are several guys on there that have bigger tires that are not ABW.

Re: Is there a competitor to 26" Airstreak tires?

As a Kitfox driver I know of the tires you're speaking of - and they're not my cup of tea. An 8" ATV wheel
with a lightweight and typically shaved tire run tubeless. I ran them on an older model Kitfox I had
and yes its more baloon and dirt cheap for those planes but I want a 'real' tire on my Cleveland 600x6 wheels.
Apparently ABW is still the way to go. If anyone else knows of a true competitor to ABW please post! Thx!

I run Nanco N800 tires on my Highlander. Got the idea from Kitfox sites and 'dead-stick' Steve. Would I like AK Bushwheels? Hell yes. However for what I do these work great and after 235 hrs I've had no problems.

Yea Greg's a good guy and makes some great videos - I've only talked to him online never in person..... long ways
from Oregon :) I'm not sure what he's running there I've never seen those wheels since :P He's got 29" Airstreaks now.

=D> That's some funny stuff, best rap yet!

One thing, and I'm open to get my mind changed/spend more money, again: I don't feel the need for a fattie tail wheel. I mean if I get through whatever it is I'm landing on with the Airstreaks, the tail wheel is coming along for the ride no matter what. I have the updated 8" Matco single fork and so far so good. I like the dual forks, but the single fork I have ain't broke yet, and the combination of dual forks and the fat tire has to be more draggy? When I get in soft stuff with the tail I just give it a blast of power and lift it up, problem solved. Besides, my tail ski can only accept the stock 8" tire anyway so like having dual puck brakes, not really an option for me when I switch over to wheel skis. Good, I just saved some money.

... Payin' rent son.. for the rest of the year..... :)

Yea I too run the Matco 8" wide on my Kitfox 5 single arm, greg upgraded to the dual fork but it's about $300 more and i'm
with you, i see no reason yet to upgrade since i'm not slaming it into boulders.

... you've got a RANS, man..... good plane :)

You might want to take a look at the 900-6 10 ply from Desser

Woohh.. 10 ply? talk about stiff for an Experimental! I run the tall 800-6 4ply from Desser for LSA's, it's
an excellent tire for $95bux landed (last time i checked). It's good but I want a softer touch :)
