IVO in-flight adjustable props
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.

I'm considering getting an IVO in-flight adjustable prop. I'd like to get off the ground a little quicker, and have a lower rpm cruise once at cruising altitude. Has anyone or is anyone using one and how is it working for you?

I have close to a thousand hours on mine on my Highlander. I have had some problems with it but overall I'm happy with it because it does just what you are wanting it to do.
If you want to see how well it works go to deadsticktakeoff.com and check out my video. I'm so shameless aren't I!?

Loving life and thankful for each day I am blessed with!
I have been running one on my experimental....
Brushes last about 100 hours.
Leading edges are kinda fragile and take a the foil leading edge tape erodes flying in rain.
They are NOT recommended for 4 cyl lycs or conti's because the power pulse being 180 degrees apart disturbed the mounting of the blades between the hub plates.

Thanks for the brief performance reports. Steve, was that 1000 hours without changing the brushes, or including one or more brush changes? And how much better take-off performance did you get after installing it?
Ben, thanks for your input there. I already use the two-blade IVO ground adjustable prop. I'm looking for a light additional feature that will help my little 50hp Rotax provide a little better STOL performance and possibly increase the engine life over the long run.

Nothing to be ashamed about. You've obviously got a great plane and enjoy flying it.

I still have the original brushes but I use a different system that I got from Kitfox. It put the contact rings behind the gearbox on the 912. They are only about 1" in diameter so there is MUCH LESS wear on the brushes. It also puts them out of sight and out of the weather.

GSC also makes an in-flight adjustable hub that takes Warp Drive blades. I've read that some people like it more because it's a bit heavier (more durable?) and doesn't have exposed brushes. I've never used any of these guys' in-flight adjustables, only the ground-adjustable, so I've no opinion... just alerting you to a possible alternative.

I'm not that keen on adding more weight in front, but the mechanical mechanism is appealing since it has less components than the IVO that could fail in flight or on the ground. I'll check it out further. Thanx!
