Jabiru Engines

Looks like the Aussie regulator is about to impose severe operating limitations on Jabiru powered aircraft. This will no doubt have a flow on effect to the rest of the world.

Re: Jabiru Engines

It isnt law yet, Its a draft proposal, open for submissions, hopefully it will just be a shock to get Jabiru to do something about a series of failures their engines have had recently.

They arn't know for supporting operators of their engines, and never report of the causes of failures.

They are not without problems either! While the great majority of users seem to be almost religious followers of the Rotax I am definitely not one of those. The 912 in my S-7 has been a constant PITA!!! One issue after another. I spoke to two different people yesterday that have been having nearly identical issues that I have been having. As soon as one issues is found, diagnosed, and then repaired usually at considerable expense, another problem seems to arrise. I seriously would not trust this engine for anything other than local or around the patch type flying. Hopefully I will be able to get all the 'bugs' worked out and be able to enjoy the plane more than what I currently do.

One of the guys I spoke with replaced nearly everything on his Rotax engine except the case and crankshaft assembly before he sold it and is now running a UL Power engine on his Sea-rey. He is extremely impressed with the UL and said he did have one minor issue when he first installed it but the factory support and part replacement was top notch.

Re: Jabiru Engines

Yes and I am glad you are one of the many that love their Rotax. I attemped to get that point across, I definitely agree that there are a great many that have problem free engines. Heck, look at Simkot and all the hours he has on his! I am truly happy you guys are having trouble free experiences with your engines. I was just trying to point out that there are a few of us that have been having issues. Maybe mine was build on a monday by a hung over worker that had an arguelment with his wife. I don't know what it was, but it sure isn't the mechanical piece of perfection so many tout as such. There are lemons in everything, I just ended up being one of the unlucky suckers that ended up with one. Unfortunately having these experiences has soured me on them. I will keep plugging ahead with it though and hopefully will get it to be one of those masterpieces of engines I had hoped for.
Carry on....rant over. ;)
